It took me a little while to get into this book, however I'm really glad now that I did.

I wasn't sure what to make of it at first with Valerie being more conservative in her ways than I was expecting. The book title also didn't sit right with me. I still think it would be better with a different title, even if Kade Rollins has a dirty mouth.

However it's Kade dirty mouth and the chemistry between the hater's to lovers tale that woo'ed me in. Kade is one seriously hot vampire, stoic when he needs to be and all hot and kinda romantic at other times.

It doesn't take long for both parties to have their preconceptions altered because of one another, especially with their mutual, honesty (to an extent) with one another. Each gets something from the other that they have not had before.

There was lots of twists and turns and I never actually guessed the who-done-it.

The book had some of the original vampire stuff, but they were also given a new twist, so it didn't feel like a lot of the other books out there.

I loved this book for many reasons, but the primary one was the main hero, Kade. I absolutely enjoyed his irreverent bad mouth (this book is *perfectly* titled! LOL). His yummy factor was also highly appreciated.

I've read quite a bit of vampire romance, and this one had some of my favorite features of the race, (sleep in daylight), but it was also quite original in many ways so it didn't feel like that same old same old. **I'm not going to give spoilers, you'll just have to read it! :)

Other things I loved about Bad Mouth included realistic dialogue, compelling and original turns of phrase, stakes (pun intended!), as well as great secondary characters whom I'm really looking forward to reading.

McCallister's world building is fantastic and just right - not too much where I was lost and not too little that I couldn't follow what was happening. She resisted the urge to over-explain, which I always hate, and the ending is so damn satisfying. She thought of everything. Two thumbs up!

I am pretty open about my usual distaste for vampires. This stems mostly from the feeling that all of the vampire novels are either exactly the same or trying to be TOO different from the other. With that being said every once and awhile a vampire stands out among the brooding, fanged masses and kicks up my heart beat.

Kade was that vampire. He stood out because he wasn't a stale and brooding.

I loved McCallisters take on vampires; she touched on both classic and new ideas. Melding the two perfectly to my liking. I think it's hard in this post-Twilight bookiverse to come up with new vamp ideas and not be compared to Meyers. This was definitely an adult vamp novel and not one little bit like Twilight. Nary a sparkling virgin to be seen!

In this book we follow Val as she searches for her ex husband and the vampires responsible for multiple deaths. Accepting help from vampires is not high on her to-do list, but it becomes a necessary evil. Assuming the vampire assigned to help is a desk jockey and then coming face to face with Kade, the prince of vampires, throws her for a loop. The undeniable attraction they both feel for each other is another unexpected turn of events.

Kade does not like humans. He has good reason for this but that doesn't really make you feel in better right? He swore a lot and was very... uhm, brash. I'm not going to lie... completely my kind of male! He didn't hold back where his mouth was concerned. But the more we learned about him through Val's eyes, the more we learned that he really was a kind and fair man.

Val was the epitome of kick ass heroine. She was afraid but overcame. She was wrong and admitted it. She was hurt, she voiced it. She was a little of everything we wished we all could be. Lol. Including being the object of Kade's desires.

McCallister did a great job of keeping us in the dark about certain plot twists and I am a huge fan of unpredictable plots! I love those "Whoa... WTF!" moments. Too much that we read is cookie cutter plot, and this was refreshingly not! I loved and hated the ending. I simultaneously thought `Yes, that's awesome!' and `Nooo, there must be more!'.

I highly recommend this for someone looking for more than your typical vampire novel and wanting characters that are more human while being more than human. I can't wait for book 2!

Bad Mouth read as equal parts Paranormal, mystery and conventional romance. The author created an original world of vampire castes, vampire wanna-bees, humans and the political intrigue maintaining the balance.

Kade was a vampire with a potty mouth and a bad reputation. He was raised to hate humans ultimately so that he could be an unwitting cog in the political machinery of those who would upset the balance. He was all things considered, despite being misguided; a good and decent man...errmmm...vampire. I think a potty mouth is sexy, but honestly his felt a little bit forced. It seemed more like a plot device as opposed to actually a part of his character. Perhaps I feel that way because I myself can be quite an eloquent and inventive curser (granted I save most of my best work for my own ears); so I guess when the book is named "Bad Mouth" I was expecting a bit more over the top originality. Of course that would likely have alienated a good part of the readership; and Bad Mouth read as very much a conventional paranormal romance; not the quirky, fringe read I was hoping for.

The heroine Valerie has grown to hate vampires due to her ex. husband's obsessive desire to become one; which resulted in his becoming deranged which in BM world means a transformation-gone-wrong psycho vampire that needs to be put down like a rabid dog. So Val blames vampires six ways to Sunday for every aspect of the entire sordid ordeal and then for a bunch of other stuff as well.

Kade and Val are thrown together in the hopes that these two bigoted haters will be the catalysts to set off a war. Surprisingly however, Kade and Val discover some MAJOR moth-to-flame chemistry and before you can say "discrimination is wrong" Val and Kade set off some sky rockets in flight, afternoon delight (except for it not being in the afternoon, obviously)...and here is where it became for me, very much a traditional romance. (And can I just say that if anyone EVER referred to me as "My Sweet" in a serious tone of voice, I think I really would throw up all over his sexy, dark, ominous shoes).

But overall, BM was an original, fun and quick read. I liked the secondary characters (Ian and Alice were especially cool) AND they also happen to be the MC's of the next installment which I'll definitely read.
