Whether he is flipping pancakes, bouncing balls, or throwing paint, Bad Cat lives up to his reputation in this funny sequel to
Tracy-Lee McGuinness-Kelly lives in Marple, England, with her husband, Pete, and son, Roy. Her illustration work appears regularly in American Girl magazine. Bad Cat Puts on His Top Hat is her second book for children about the loveable Bad Cat.
It was a joy to rediscover it one day when I had my own 2 year old. This book is funny and sassy and the best part, other than the story!, is the amazing artwork. I guess you could describe it as collage -every scene is SO detailed - we have a blast just looking at the opening page, especially - and looking for dogs, can you see an airplane? a taxi? etc. It's the kind of book 6 months after you first read it you'll say 'Oh! I never noticed this such-and-such on this page!'
The words are nice to read and sing-songy. It basically follows this cat, 'Bad Cat' being a little nosy in The Big Stinky (a big city) - but he's not really bad! Maybe he shouldn't initially do what he does (like sneak in the back door of the diner and cook eggs) but he winds up leaving a trail of adoring fans in his wake.
It's apparently the SECOND Bad Cat book - we don't have the original but will def. get that soon.
This has been my son's favorite book for three years. He is now six and just recently started reading on his own, but he had the words memorized long ago. The pictures are cooky and the story is catchy. Read it once or twice & you'll find yourself almost chanting the words. My son & I often race to see who can read each page fastest.
All in all, a great book!
