Marvel Music/Hollywood Records announce the return of Soundgarden with the release of the band's first all new song in 15 years, "Live to Rise." The song will be featured in the end credits to this year's highly anticipated movie, "Marvel's The Avengers." Avengers Assemble is a 14-track compilation of music from and inspired by the film.
In addition to Soundgarden's "Live to Rise," the Avengers Assemble collection features original songs inspired by the exciting and action-packed film event. The diverse range of artists includes Rise Against, Shinedown, Bush and Redlight King.
Marvel Studios presents "Marvel's The Avengers"--the Super Hero team up of a lifetime, featuring iconic Marvel Super Heroes Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk, Thor, Captain America, Hawkeye and Black Widow. When an unexpected enemy emerges that threatens global safety and security, Nick Fury, Director of the international peacekeeping agency known as S.H.I.E.L.D., finds himself in need of a team to pull the world back from the brink of disaster. Spanning the globe, a daring recruitment effort begins. Starring Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner and Tom Hiddleston, with Stellan Skarsgård and Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, and directed by Joss Whedon, "Marvel's The Avengers" is based on the ever-popular Marvel comic book series "The Avengers," first published in 1963 and a comics institution ever since. "Marvel's The Avengers" is from Marvel Studios in association with Paramount Pictures, produced by Kevin Feige and directed by Joss Whedon from a story by Zak Penn and Joss Whedon with screenplay by Joss Whedon.
The film releases in theaters on May 4, 2012.

Ages ago, I too was deceived into thinking this was the actual movie soundtrack. I listened to it once and was never even remotely tempted to listen to it again. I think there was one track I enjoyed. It might be a good CD to workout too, it's got that rock, the singer perpetually sounds like he's screaming at you thing going for it. Some people actually like that. If you're one of them, by all means, buy this soundtrack. It's got a good mix of talented artists.
However, I did not buy it because I love the Avengers (which I do)... I bought it because I heard a couple of the songs, liked them, saw that Evanescence and Black Veil Brides were also on the album, and decided it was worth the gamble. It certainly was. I am a writer of fantasy/ sci fi who is always looking for good music to inspire my stories and characters, and I found it here.
A number of the more negative reviews have mentioned that most of the songs are not on the Avengers movie and do not seem to connect to the story like other "inspired by" albums do (I think of the brilliant "Songs from District 12 and Beyond for the first Hunger Games movie). While that is true in one sense, I feel like the songs have very strong THEMATIC connections to the Avengers story. They are all about saving the world, sticking by one's friends, struggling with not "fitting in," and, ultimately, deciding to stand for what is right even if one is not understood. Beautiful songs.
I am not going to bore anyone with my personal "play-by-play" analysis and critique of each song on this disc. After all, it would only reflect my own personal tastes and preferences. Instead I would encourage everyone to check out Amazon's MP3 sampler or YouTube to get an idea of the songs and form your own opinion. However, I am going to hedge a bit and say that of the many highlights on this disc, my personal favorite, other than Soundgarden’s “Live to Rise”, is the haunting, enticing voice of Amy Lee in the Evanescence song “A New Way to Bleed.”
The CD, itself, has 13 songs from 13 different artists. The production quality is excellent. There are quite a variety of styles and approaches to each artist's contribution to this soundtrack. Some of the artists are established and some are fairly new. But, I can say that I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of most, if not all, of the songs. Maybe, it is because I did not have high expectations (or preconceived notions), but I found this soundtrack to be very listenable and enjoyable. I would definitely recommend it to anyone with an open mind.
