The Art of Moana is the latest title in our exceptional series showcasing artwork from the creation of Walt Disney Animations' latest releases. Three thousand years ago, the greatest sailors in the world ventured across the Pacific, discovering the many islands of Oceania. But then, for a millennium, their voyages stopped—and no one today knows why. From Walt Disney Animation Studios, Moana is a CG-animated adventure about a spirited teenager who sails out on a daring mission to prove herself a master wayfinder and fulfill her ancestors' unfinished quest. During her journey, Moana meets the once-mighty demi-god Maui and together they traverse the open ocean on an action-packed adventure, encountering enormous fiery creatures and impossible odds. The stunning artwork in this behind-the-scenes book includes character designs, storyboards, colorscripts, and much more.

Note that there are spoilers in this book. So it's probably better to only go through the book after watching the film.
In addition to the environment art, there are lots of character designs. Directors Ron Clements and John Musker were inspired by the beauty of the Pacific islands, and the culture of their people. All the designs in the book are inspired by culture and that's what makes this book awesome, because it there's so much depth. You can read about how the designers research on the landscape and flora, and get inspiration from the design language of these people. Designs for the clothing, props, setting and even the tattoos on the bodies of the characters are all spot on, and all give life to these characters. There are short text on the designs too.
All 160 pages in this hardcover are filled with beautiful artworks.
If this book is selling at full retail price without discount, I recommend checking out Book Depository to compare prices. You might find it cheaper there.

She and my other sister (a ink & paint artist) loved the movie, Moana and commented about the characters, and the striking resemblance and match to the ones in our Infinity pool.
Of all the Christmas presents, this was one of those where she disappeared for hours to take her time in relishing each page of designs, artwork and illustrations ...
Clearly, not just for kid's ... a great art/illustration Polynesian-based book of inspiration for everyone else too!
My one complaint is that there are never enough conceptual designs of characters but as that is the industry I am working towards, I always want to see more of that type of art so that's just my bias.
I would definitely recommend this to fans of Disney, Moana, or art and design in general. This gives a really beautiful look into the making of a wonderful film.
