Easily one of the most influential and popular design companies of our era, Apple has made electronics design history with its innovative iMacs, iPhones, iPods and iPads. Apple Design features over 200 examples of outstanding Apple designs by Jonathan Ive (born 1967), the company's Senior Vice President of Industrial Design, who since 1997 has been responsible for the design of all of Apple's products. Over the past decade, Ive and his team of designers have created elegant and user-friendly designs that have significantly advanced the brand's cult status as it enters the new millennium. Examining each of these in detail, and with full color throughout, Apple Design compares various approaches to industrial design alongside Apple's, and casts light on numerous aspects of its history, deepening our understanding of contemporary industrial design. Following an analysis of the forms and functions of the featured Apple products, the book provides an explanation of the innovative production methods and materials applied. Last but not least, it examines Apple design's overt references to the simplified forms of the products manufactured by the great German brand Braun, and enumerates the famous "Ten Rules for Good Design" promulgated by the company's chief designer, Dieter Rams, showing in each case how Apple has deployed and fulfilled them.
Apple Design delves into about 200 such products, most of which have been overseen by Jonathan Ive, the company's vice president of industrial design (not to mention the late great Steve Jobs himself). Think of it as an excellent gift/companion piece for those who have already devoured Walter Isaacson's best-selling biography.--Rachel Wolff "Departures "
This book will satisfy anyone interested in how best to marry beautiful design with practical function - whether you think of yourself as a Mac or a PC.--Jennifer Schiavone "Metrosource "

I did not purchase my first Apple product until 2001 (the iPod, of course!) so I found it great fun to start at the beginning and look at all of the iterations of various products (especially the iPod). I don't imagine every product is in there but studying the differences between the first generation of say, a desktop, and the ones succeeding it is a fun part of this book. I am a web designer by trade and sleek, simple design is my favorite design to execute. As I'm sure you can imagine, this book was like crack to me!
The physical book itself is very well made and quite hefty. It is not as huge as some coffee table books so you could put it on a shelf although I leave it out on the table because I've had guests who have gotten a real kick out of it. It's definitely a conversation starter and I haven't had one person yet who could stop themselves from picking it up and looking at it. The pages are also of quality stock paper.
Information is presented in a very visual format which reveals this collection of objects in a 'curated' manner, resulting in a beautiful visual reference, and a stunning snapshot of what Apple has accomplished in a relatively short period of time. This book delivers in ways where many others have fallen short.
A must-have for design nerds, product afficionados, and anyone who finds beauty in well-designed objects.
It's not just a simple Apple picture book.

The SECOND HALF OF THE BOOK is called "Designed For Apple by Jonathan Ive - 1997-2011". It starts with a product overview sorted by year and then images of each product, giving it ample space, often using the spread (2 pages) for a beautiful roomy and calm layout and presentation.
However not all the models in a series are represented. For example,
-> 2003 | PowerBook G4 Aluminium
