Detailed 1/48 scale assembly model kit of the Martin B-57 Canberra, a Cold War era twin jet engine light bomber and reconnaissance aircraft operated by the United States Air Force. Introduced in 1954, the Martin B-57 was derived from a version of the English Electric Canberra built under license by the Glenn L. Martin Company. In dire need of a day/night and all-weather interdiction aircraft at the outbreak of the Korean War, the United States Air Force turned to the British Canberra B.2. To expedite production, Martin was granted a license to build Canberras, designated B-57 (Martin Model 272) in the US. Early B-57A variant was nearly identical to the British Canberra, with the exception of more powerful Armstrong Siddeley Sapphire engines instead of Rolls-Royce Avons, also license-built in the US as Wright J65s. The definitive B-57B version was significantly modified to include a new tandem cockpit with a bubble canopy, eight 12.7 mm machine guns or later four 20 mm cannons, and four under-wing hard points. B-57Bs saw limited combat service during the Vietnam War. This Airfix 1/48 scale assembly kit features parts and decals for U.S.A.F B-57B, RB-57E, and RB-57G versions. 120 parts.
