This is an action/adventure FBI story layered with a vein of espionage that follows on from Acts of Redemption, which I enjoyed. I like the principal character, FBI agent, Sheila Harrington. A powerful and determined woman with a skill set to get the job done no matter what is required or who gets hurt in the process, and was glad to see her return in Acts of Betrayal. It was good to reunite with familiar characters from Acts of Redemption for another exciting adventure. As with the previous book, the characters are well developed with unexpected flaws and strengths, and I wanted to know how they would develop. Oozing with intrigue and suspense, the intricate multi-layered story moves along at a steady pace and kept me turning the pages. My only criticism; I found the number of characters and their nicknames and their call signs a challenge to keep in mind. Otherwise, well written with action scenes and twists a plenty.
“Acts of Betrayal” picks up where the first book in this series “Acts of Redemption” ended. Ms. Burke quickly lets the reader know what has happened to the FBI agents and their counterparts from the last book. What is different in this book is the line between good and bad becomes very blurred and has to be crossed for the good of all. The book swiftly starts with an event I wasn’t expecting and a few changes of perspectives of the characters including Sheila, Mike, Trish and Nigel. Like the first book, this has suspense, mystery, intrigue and everything that makes a great story. This is a unique twist where the bad guy has hidden heart and the good guy has many personal issues to overcome. There are a lot of characters to keep track of along with their nicknames, but they are fully developed. My curiosity to see the pictures that made the characters “sick” shows how the story pulls the reader in. This is a great second book in the series and I look forward to the next book.
The absorbing plot will will keep the reader engrossed to the finish.
However, with that said, there were a number of areas that call for improvement. The book had a very extensive list of characters that switched or were identified differently - by name, nickname or "call signs" - at each introduction. Perhaps a page listing the characters with all their references would be a useful guide for the reader. References to the military "black ops" should have provided more details and possibly a more thorough understanding of these United States military endeavors. A comprehensive edit should have been done to eliminate misspellings, typos and punctuation issues.
5つ星のうち5.0Sure to satisfy the most discriminating psychological thriller fan
Acts of Betrayal is a psychological thriller and adventure tale that will keep you turning the pages. Be forewarned the book has a complex plot with many moving parts and a large cast of characters to keep track of, a book truly written in a Robert Ludlum-like style. With many twists, turns, and subplots the story will keep those whose reading tastes run to this type of novel on the edge of their seats.
The characters are both authentic and fully developed. The scenes describing covert operations of government agents are credibly written. There is plenty of action and intrigue, more than enough to satisfy the most discriminating psychological thriller fan. The author leaves you guessing right up to the very end, and after reading the conclusion, you're left with sort of an ah-ha moment where you realize the book ended in exactly the way it had to.
Acts of Betrayal is an entertaining read sure to please.

Suzanne Burk has woven a epic tale of corruption at the highest level. Nearly all the characters are ruthless and kill without hesitation. A Seal team had done something horrible and discover the same is in the works again. They have to stop it or millions could die. To compound their efforts, some are working under another set of orders to keep the secrets of the past by killing other team members. A governor running for president is involved and his fiancé is a cold hearted killer and member of the team seeking a way to stop a rich psycho's revenge. Every twist and turn reveals yet another corrupt and deceitful government person; including the president and acting president.
This book picks up from where Acts Beyond Redemption left off, which was a book I thoroughly enjoyed. In Acts of Betrayal, the plot was very good. However, there were many areas that need editing; many characters and some with two names; and the pace was slow. I struggled whether to give 3 or 4 stars, but chose 4 because the plot was outstanding and I believe with some editing this book would read much better.

Cleverly crafted this second book reveals the answers to questions sowed in book one. The author holds nothing back in this chilling thriller. She takes you on an adrenaline-fueled nightmare rollercoaster where you know no character is safe and there’s not likely to be a sugar-coated Hollywood-happy- ever-after ending, but this also makes it a page-turner. Due to its graphic violence and horror elements it is intended for mature audiences.
