I want to start by saying I have a 2 year old. So what? Try and read a whole book or even more than a page with a toddler and you will know what I mean. Therefore for me the whole page a day worked really well at this point in my life. I could, however, see how that would be a little frustrating if you had all the time you desired to read a book. Certainly the times when I could read more I did skip and read 10 or 20 pages. That is the reason I only gave it four stars because if you're already lacking motivation then sticking with a one year program might be a little tough.
I liked how the book started with inspirational quotes and then followed them with a few paragraphs on how you could take those words of wisdom and use them in your life. Some were trite but aren't many truths? I mean you read and think "duh" but then do the exact opposite in your life...well at least I do. (Thus reading so many self help books!)
There are sections on laughter, challenge, goal setting, truthfulness, breathing and playing to name a few each about covering about 5 days/pages worth. So in fact you do spend more time on one theme and can work with it over a few days. I liked that that gave me time to implement and layer the techniques I was learning. It's a great way to build your understanding and gives you time to fail and then retry again.
I'm a big fan of being able to open and book and take that one discrete bit of wisdom for my day or apply it to a challenge I'm facing. This book is perfect for that. It's full of many small actions that if followed could absolutely help you achieve your goals. As they say "A thousand mile journey starts with one step."
So as far as self-help books go this is a good tool to own. Frankly if I walk away with one thought from a book that can help me improve I'm happy. I certainly got a lot out of it and still do whenever I feel the need to.
I have no idea why this book has so many high ratings, its very badly written and hard to read.
I have ADD so of course ignored the instructions to read one page a day and read the whole lot in one go. There are lots of useful lessons in here and I know I will come back to this book time and time again when I'm in need of a little kick towards positive thinking. I might even get a journal and do some of the exercises!
I enjoyed the quotes too, a nice extra thought for each day.
Really useful for anyone who needs a bit of organisation in their lives. Especially great for anyone who suffers from ADD or general inability to plan their lives.
Its upifting and straight to the point . What i say is why write a thousand words when it can be said and explained in say 50 ..less is always more your not overwhelming the reader .
