Having recently started a new job where I mainly work from home and have been supplied with a work laptop and monitor. I wanted to use the same monitor, keyboard and mouse that my personal PC uses. I have a small room I use as a home office, and didn't have space for two of everything.
This KVM switch is exactly what I wanted. The reason for the missing star is that it came with a continental adapter, not a UK one. I had a convertor, but my OCD gets annoyed with such things.
A bit more about my set up... My home PC is straightforward, apart from I use a Logitech wireless keyboard and mouse with the Logitech unifying receiver. I wanted to use this same keyboard and mouse with the laptop. I took a punt that I could plug the receiver into the USB hub part of the KVM and both laptop and PC would work. Fortunately they do! I installed the software on my work laptop, and it all just works. When I press the button to switch between the two machines, the keyboard and mouse just works with no real noticeable delay.
The monitor is a 24" with 1920x1200 resolution, it works fine and switches without a problem - no issue with incorrect resolution.
To further complicate things, work also provide a USB docking station. I plug one USB3 cable into the laptop which allows network and monitor out. On the back of the docking station is a DVI out, which I plugged into one of the KVM 'ins'. I was also worried that this would work, as I wasn't sure if the KVM would work properly with the docking station. Again, fortunately, all seems fine.
I have only tested the audio out of the PC so far, and this works.
I've not tried the auto switching, and this is unnecessary for my requirements. The manual push buttons work just fine. You can disable the auto-switching, which I may do if it causes me any problems.
It's a solid piece of kit, quite weighty with all the cables included. So far, i'm very pleased with it. It's just a shame about the power supply. However, this is Amazon's fault as they should have described it correctly.
