After I saw the movie, I looked forward to this book, wanting to know more about Jackie. I wanted to know what the movie got right and what the movie makers added or changed for effect. Novelizations are perfect places for authors to explore and reveal where movie makers did not have the time, money, or patience. While entertaining, and spattered with a few extra tidbits of information/added scenes, this book follows the movie to the T. The author does not even really reveal the thoughts of the characters in the book. It reads like the script with descriptions of action.

If you want to read something that is mostly a novel form of the movie, this is a great book. If you want to know more, I recommend "I Never Made It," Jackie Robinson's autobiography.
