You can really appreciate the complexity and continuity of the themes Jeff Richmond weaves into the score throughout the series. I wish the Cleveland song was it's own seperate track, but it's not an end-all. I also wish the Kidney Now song was included, but given the number of currently recording stars featured, I'm not surprised (I'm guessing it had something ti do with cost and/or contracts).
The book is nice. I'm an obsessive freak.... I mean, passionate fan... so I've heard some of the blurbs already in commentary or interviews. Still, it's an interesting read and nice quality.
Overall, glad I bought it.
The first CD has a lot of small cocktail lounge type numbers, then turns into more of a soundtrack towards the end. It's good jazz music just by itself. It has the Mister Templeton song and the stuff about Cleveland as well.
The second CD has many of the funnier songs like Tennis Night and the entire Werewolf Bar Mitzvah. It also has the songs from the Christmas show in which Colleen spends the Holidays with Jack.
Both CDs are inside the front cover of a nice hardback book. The book doesn't add too much information, mostly photos and sound bites, but it makes a nice presentation.
As a long-time 30 Rock fan, the music has always struck me and I've done many fruitless Google searches over the years. My honest opinion about this album: IT'S ABOUT DAMN TIME.
If you're a casual fan that only wants a few quirky tracks, you can get away with the "hits" like Muffin Top and Werewolf Bar Mitzvah on MP3. I'm on the other end of the fandom spectrum, so I got the Collector's Edition. For a little over $20 on Amazon, it's a STEAL.
Extremely surprised at the large package, that's all. May have failed to perceive any notice of this being a hardback. With an intro from Jeff Richmond, great production shoots of the cast, handwritten sheet music and a script extract, this is one hell of a buy.
The music is great, and this long overdue and much anticipated release comes pleasantly received. From Richmond's familiar opening theme to Jenna's low fat "Muffin Top" and Tracey's spooky "Werewolf Bar Mitzvah", you'll relive the comical show from your MP3 player or car stereo when travelling.
The guys and gals on this show are the greatest, I love the work Fey, Richmond, Baldwin and Krakrowski do on 30 rock. The best - this package is a true collector's item.
As a lot of other reviews state: the book is big! Even though I heard it was big I didn't realize it would be as big as it is. The book is nicely presented with great images and little extras. What you most likely don't know is that the book even features some '30 Rock' humor which had me laughing to myself.
The soundtrack itself is great too. It'll have you remembering your favorite episodes and songs.
The price is well worth it and the only downsize is that there is no 'Kidney Now' but maybe they are saving that for soundtrack number two ;-)
