Surface's last New Jack Swing era album.
2022年9月19日にアメリカ合衆国でレビュー済みAmazonで購入
The 3 Deep album represented three different changes that were getting ready to go down for the group. First, the album was the last album the group recorded for Columbia Records. Second, it was the last album the group recorded until 1997. And third, it was their last album of the New Jack Swing era, an era in which the group was in their prime or at their best.
3 Deep represented the third album that Surface recorded on Columbia Records, and it's a trip how this was the last album they recorded together until the late 1990s. Then again, Surface's sound and style fit in so well with the New Jack Swing era that when that era ended, you wondered how their sound and style would fit into the 1992 to 1996 era of R&B soul and R&B pop music. Well, that's a discussion for another time.
3 Deep was a mixture of sweet love ballads, slow jams, and some fast-paced or up-tempo jams that talked about being in love. There were no songs on this album that talked about being love lorn, being a jilted lover, or having bitter feelings towards women. That just wasn't Surface's style.
I noticed that the first six songs of this album were slower paced love ballads, while the last six songs were faster paced songs that made you want to get up and dance or at least move your feet to the beat. I guess that was the intent of the group and Columbia Records.
The First Time (track 1) was the biggest hit song on the album, and there were two other singles that were hits for the album too. But if you got past those three singles you would get some other songs that were worth your time.
Once again, David Townsend and David Conley impressed me with their beat production which supported very well I might add, lead singer Bernard Jackson's vocals.
Pros of 3 Deep: Bernard Jackson's vocals, the beat production, and some guest vocalists supported this album and helped it sell well.
Cons of 3 Deep: There weren't as many memorable songs on this album like on their debut album in 1986 or their second album 2nd Wave in 1988. And the last track on the album, Kid Stuff (Believe in Yourself) could have been left off the album. 3 Deep was a grown folk's album about love, that song didn't fit in on this album.
3 Deep was a departure in some respects from their first two albums, but this album was still laced with Surface's signature sound.
For many fans of Surface, 3 Deep represented their last image of the group for a while because they didn't record another public album until around 1997. But in my heart, even if the group never recorded another album after 3 Deep, I would have been content. Three albums (Surface (1986), 2nd Wave (1988) and 3 Deep) are better than nothing.

Don't hear these jams on the old school stations...was riding around jamming this in 91' senior year with my prom date! "Give her your love" & "All I want is you" are my jams!

Tomorrow is a favorite song...also never gonna let you down and the first time. I wish this group had newer songs out...they were a great r& b group.

I received my CD in only a couple of days. However, it came with a cracked case. We put it in the player and it works. So I will be keeping it. That's the first time I have ever had a problem with a item I have ordered from Amazon.
