This is an excellent game for 2 to 5 players. The basis of the game is building a galactic empire to aquire victory points. You do this by exploring, settling new worlds, developing technology and/or producing goods. Each world or tech that you develop/settle will give you more dice to use to do the above or bonus powers/skills which assist your quest in various ways.
The game pieces are of a high quality and it is surprisingly simple once you get the hang of it.
And therein lies a small problem - in my opinion the instructions manual is terrible. Its not layed out well, it seems to give you all the info without providing a narative for the way the game actually plays. I resorted to youtube in the end and after watching a playthrough video, i had learned to play it in 15 minutes. (ive learned and played arkham horror which is vastly more complicated than this and their instructions made perfect sense)
However - DONT LET THAT PUT YOU OFF! This is still an excellent and enjoyable game and is fast becoming a favorite in my group of friends.
