    ロスト・キングダムという映画を観て、
    ルバイヤートという詩集の存在を知りました。

    日本語訳が文語体（それもほとんど古語に近い）ため
    じっくり噛み砕くように読むことを要求されますが、
    それがかえって詩の世界観をそのまま表現しているようで
    流れるような日本語とペルシャの詩が美しくマッチしています。

    各詩すべて英訳と並列されているところが個人的にはとても気に入っています。
    ストレートな英文の方が、かえって詩の意味がさらっと理解できたり、
    英語圏ではこんな風に訳されてるんだなぁなんて対比できて感慨深いです。

    みなさん書かれていますが、
    装丁や挿絵、レイアウトがとにかく美しいです。
    文字を読むのが億劫でも、挿絵を眺めているだけで
    ほぅっ…と溜息。

    家でぼんやり人生とか芸術とか異国とかに
    思いを馳せながら捲りたい本です。

    ソフトカバーの装丁ですが編集に携わったかたの深い愛情が感じられる本です。
    ビアズリーやバルビエが大好きな私にはこの本の挿絵も素晴らしいと思いました。
    文字だけのルバイヤート本はあまり興味なかったので今まで手に取ることはなかったのですが、この本で初めて読んでみてその世界観に感動しました。
    そして解説も詳しく書かれていて、詩の理解を深めてくれます。
    本当にいい本を買ったと思いました。

    この挿絵作家ー恐らくは銅版ですがー好きでリトグラフを購入するのに合わせてこの本を買いました。
    詩がどのような形態や歴史を持っているのかわからないままの購入でしたが、一番最初の詩にクラっときました。
    朝あけは古文だとあさぼらけやしののめに当たるのだろうな、と情景を思い浮かべられる美しさでした。
    訳者のセンスと言われる由縁がわかる詩です。本の後ろに第一版の約や解説が付いているのも助けになります。

    旧訳の群星、なんて今は聞かれない言葉です。新訳では星のつどいとなっています。

    いずれにせよペルシャ語(と、思いますが)にご堪能な方はもちろん、挿絵を楽しまれたい方もお持ちになられて
    残念な気持ちのしない良い本です。
