Un superbe album de Larry qui ne vieillit pas, c'est fort et d'une tessiture des plus exacerbée du virtuose... ce CD doit absolument intégrer votre discothèque au rayon Carlton, voire au rayon "excellent"...

Most people know Larry Carlton from his more commercial "smooth jazz" material. Many may not realize that he has also been a session musician for such luminaries as Joni Mitchell and Steely Dan. I used to have a tendency to underrate Larry Carlton. My guitar teacher recommended this album to me. I went on Amazon and bought one for him and for me, since we were working on "All Blues." It blew me away. I am glad that Carlton had an opportunity to record an album of serious jazz such as this one. This album contains his interpretations of two songs from Miles Davis' "Kind of Blue" as well as several of his own compositions. This album made me take Larry Carlton seriously as a great jazz guitarist. I highly recommend this album to jazz fans and more casual listeners alike.
I've seen Larry Carlton 4 times over the years. He was really 'on' twice and seemed a bit uninterested the other two. This record is definitely Larry on a good night. He gets into one of his patented runs on "Don't Give It Up" that makes you think he could go on forever spitting out clean, melodic lines. And "Last Nite" has a really wild run where he seems to chase down the melody for a good 2 minutes before he finally catches it. My only complaint is the horns that were added later in the studio. It takes away from the live, spontaneous vibe of the tunes. Still, if you only know Larry Carlton from his mellow jazz period this is a great place to get acquainted with his earlier, shall we say, "more energetic" days.
the definitive Larry Carlton album. wow if I could play guitar like him I would be very happy. he's amazing, and has a band that not only keeps up but adds to it.
