No doubt this kettle is incredible to look at, but I took off a star for convenience. I have to use an oven mitt to take the lid off when measuring the water temp (during my pretentious coffee brewing process haha), because the top knob gets quite hot. I can only get away with gripping the lid knob with my bare fingers for just a few seconds (I'm weak and delicate, I know).
My criticism is a nitpicky thing, but a kettle for this price better be near perfect. Good news though: the handle does not get as hot as long as you keep the kettle bottom centered on the burner, so no need for oven mitt there. In addition, the kettle pours perfectly, and I can easily make pour-over coffee like a pro.
So if your hands are more rugged than mine, this is the perfect gooseneck kettle. And despite the minor inconvenience, I am very much happy with my purchase.
The workmanship is great and precise. The design is functional and well thought out. I like the all stainless design - and the fine polished finish. The lid will not fall out when you tilt the pot to pour - no hot water is spilling out throug the gap of the lid (remember to put the venting hole to the front). I dont really understand how this is possible - probably just very accurate fitting tolerances of the lid - but very nice! The bottom of the kettle is conical ! - only with a small contacting ring zone at the middle. At first I thought this was a design or manufacturing fault - bot now I think this is actually on purpose - in order to keep the handle relatively cool (away from the heating surface of the bottom). The downside is that the heating time on an electric stovetop is relatively long - 5minutes or more depending on filling. But I dont mind - in fact I like it - makes the brewing process more relaxed and meditative.
The pour is beautifylly precise - I am very happy with the small Shizuko spout diameter
Only problem I had was an unpleasant metallic taste for the first several times I used it. I tried cleaning with Cafiza and numerous boils to clean it. Eventually the metallic taste disappeared - and the water now tastes good / neautral. I have no idea where the metal taste came from - perhaps residues from the polishing ? Anyway it turned out good.
Great piece. Sturdy and strong. The neck is very strong doesn't feel cheap at all. I love how you can control the amount of water being poured from light to heavy amount. The only issue I have with it is that the handle is very hot hot! I have to use a heat resistant piece to hold the handle. Other than that it's my favorite piece of my pour over coffee collection.

Excellent quality kettle. I love the narrow pouring spout for more control during pour over coffee. Online at a coffee equipment site, I also found a “Super Fast Pocket Thermometer RT301WA” with a horizontal digital display with a narrow enough probe to fit into the Takahiro vent hole in the lid. It helps me to keep my water temperature in range during pour over without having to remove the lid. I do angle (hold) the thermometer display with my thumb during pour over to keep the probe off the side walls for an accurate reading.
Finding a well-made tea kettle in 2017 became a research project, believe it or not. Quality control world-wide seems to be at an all-time low. However, I am happy to report that this Takahiro kettle makes a delicious cup of coffee. It pours a thin, even stream of water that saturates the grounds evenly. The top fits snugly and has a little lip that prevents it from falling out of the pot when you to it to pour water. It heats water quickly and contrary to other posters opinions, the handle stayed cool. That may be because I have an induction cooktop, but the smallest heating surface is wider than the pot's bottom and still the handle does not get hot.I have used this pot for about a month and the only improvement-and it would be an important one-I world make is to replace the current knob on the cap with one that remains cool. The knob now on the pot gets so hot that it requires a pot holder. Enjoy!
