First, the negative: why they called the album "Evolution" escaped me until the very end, even after pages where each band member describes what the word means to them. It is not as if their sound has evolved in any way from their previous album. Having said that . . .
This is another MASTERPIECE from Boyz II Men. As always, their moving sense of harmony is further blessed by the songwriting gifts of Babyface ("Never", "Girl In The Life Magazine", "A Song for Mama") and Sean 'Puffy' Combs ("Baby C'mon", "All Night Long").
Whether the self-explanatorily-entitled poignant "(I'm) Doin' Just Fine", the longing "4 Seasons of Loneliness" and "Girl In The Life Magazine", or the profoundly moving "A Song for Mama" and "Dear God" . . . it's a pleasure hearing four distinct voices blending seamlessly.
