This book does just what it sets out to do: provide readers with a general vocabulary for talking about academic subjects--from politics to philosophy to the arts--in Japanese. Many texts for advanced students of Japanese focus on Newspaper Japanese, Business Japanese, etc, but this book is the only one I've found with comprehensive and categorical lists of academic vocabulary. The terms are introduced with sample sentences and explanation of common roots, as well as commentary to provide context.
