様々なスタイルを持つハンコックのアルバムの中でも、この"Spek〜" は
格別に美しい！アルバムです。
ホーンセクションが繰り返すテーマの中を、ハンコックの透明感のある繊細
なフレーズが自由に漂い、流れます。 ゆっくりと　遠い思い出を探るように。
う〜ん．．．１００回聴いても飽きません。

マイルス・デイビスの"Nefertiti"で見られたアイデアの発展形ながら、趣きがより
ロマンティックになったのは彼の個性でしょうか。スタイルに関わらず、素直な
好奇心と純粋さを持って楽曲を作るハンコックの個性こそ　"Speak Like a Child"

アルバムごとに多様な形態をとるハンコック。

近年の活躍しか知らなかった自分には、このアルバムは目から鱗。
こんなお洒落なジャズを作っていたとは・・・。

とてもロマンチックで、でも飽きさせない演奏。
ハンコックのピアノを思う存分堪能できますよ！！！

有名な「処女航海」はどちらかというとホーンの印象が強いアルバムですがこの「スピーク・ライク・ア・チャイルド」はどの曲もハンコックのピアノが前面にでており、鋭くも美しいハンコックのピアノを存分に聴くことができます。3,5,6はピアノトリオでの演奏です。
フリューゲルホーンとバストロンボーンの入ったアップテンポの曲とスローな曲、トリオによるアップテンポの曲とスローな曲、といろんな曲調が交互に入っており楽しめます。
数十年前の演奏がまったく色あせていないどころか、今聴いても新鮮で先端を行っているのがすごいと思います。
「RIOT」と「SORCERER」はマイルス・デイビスのバンドで初演されており、これも有名な演奏なのでぜひききくらべてみることをおすすめします。
