メタリカを、メタルを語って欲しくない。

よりヴァリエーション豊かな楽曲が増え、プログレ的な作風も出てきて、ただズクズク刻むだけのバンドでは無い、懐が深くなった一枚。

どの曲も完成度が飛躍的に上がり、メタリカは格段にレベル・アップしていったのだが・・・、このアルバムを最期に、ベースのクリフ・バートンが不慮の事故で亡くなってしまう。

クリフがいなくなっても、メタリカは、メタリカだが、やはり、彼の存在は、僕にとって特別な存在だった。

このアルバムを気に入ったら、是非クリフが演奏している映像にも目を通して欲しい。
メチャクチャカッコイイですから。

かれこれ20年くらい前にオリジナル・ドーナツ盤で購入して感動！
それ以来ファンだったが、[Limited Edition]　最近発売になった事を知り購入しました。
もっとリマスターされてるのかな？と思ったが、音質がクリアになった程度で、
重圧かつスピードなメタルサウンドは、やっぱり良かった！当時の音と変わらないな。あえて違いは高音が前に出ててクリアに聴こえる感じ。アコギ・クリアギターの音が前に出てる。　リマスター音に関しては「好き」「嫌い」は個人差あるだろうが、初めて聴く人、私のように買替えた人、双方納得するデキ（早い話し、オリジナルそのままの音源って事）ニュアンスの違いを感じませんでした。
バッテリーは今でも良い曲だ！！！

2ndを聴いてメタリカを認識し、遡って1stを聴き、メタリカにハマった。
そして発表されたばかりの本作を手に入れて、もう夢中になったもんですよ。
もう20年以上前なんですねぇ。

オープニングは、あの「BATTERY」。それに続くのはタイトルチューン。
他にも5曲目とラストに高速チューンを差込み、アルバム全体を緩急を付けドラマティックに仕上げています。

残念ながら、バンドはこのアルバムを最後にクリフ・バートンを事故で失いますが、その事でメタリカは終わったとかなんとか言われました。
まあでもメタリカは今でもメタリカだし、最高傑作と謳われた本作の後にも賛否両論あれどブラックアルバムなど出来のいい作品を残してきています。
しかしねぇ･･･正直本作を超えたものは無いと思います。

本作に限らず、1st・2ndも含めて最近のメタリカしか知らない人に是非聴いて欲しい作品です。
さすがにジェームスの声も若いし、ちょっと古風に聞える部分もあるでしょう。
古き良き･･･なんて言いたくないけど、今のメタリカにないものが感じられると思いますよ。
