このCDシリーズのレビューを読むと、曲のアレンジについて「こざかしくて親しめない」とする人と、よしとする人と分かれるようです。
自分の感想としてはどちらも当たってるかなと思います。良いのもあるけど、ちょっとな、というのもあります。
第二集は聴いていないけれど第一集よりはこちらの三集の方が自然に聴けるかなという感じはします。
山下洋輔は加川良の歌伴奏に徹していますので、以前にやっていた「砂山」のようなのではありません。フリーのソロなどはいっさい無しです。本当に聴けばすぐわかりますがこの山下は普通の「ジャズ風アレンジ」であって、全くフリージャズではありません。ジャズ風のピアノソロはほんの1/2コーラスほどありますが。
吉田美奈子がすばらしいので、買った価値はあったかなという感想です。
ジャケットのコラージュははおもしろいのですけれど。
こういう良いとも悪いともつかない作品も大事なのかなと思います。自分用に組み直してCDをコピーできる時代ですし。

録音は、一聴して音が悪いなという印象を受けました。
なお発売元の告知によると、初期発売ロットに「マスターテープの取り違えによる不良」があるため回収交換するとのこと。識別点は
・CD盤面印刷上部の品番"RZCM-46136"表記部分にアンダーライン
・帯のバーコード部分の下地がグレー
になっているものが改正版とのこと。
中古盤入手の場合は注意が要るようです。

日本の歌という極上の素材に取り組むのは　言わば刺身で食べるのが一番うまいマグロを敢えて調理するようなものですからアレンジにも覚悟が必要だろうと興味深深でしたが　意外に安易な印象でした。崩して歌ったメロディにエスニック風味な伴奏という思いつきそうな料理方法か、各々のアレンジャーの馴染みの土俵に引きずりこんでるか、という感じです。　
　でも季節のイベントでBGMにしたらかなり新鮮かもしれません。何気
なく聞いてて　えー　これひな祭り？とウケルと思います。そういう
意味では結構使えるアルバムです。
　でもお子さんに日本の歌を聴かせたいお母様は、安田姉妹等の素材をそのまま伝えるCDをお勧めします。
まずは刺身が一番のマグロのうまさを伝えましょう。

　第１集・第２集と比べて圧倒的に新鮮な感覚のアルバムになっています。童謡・唱歌の枠から飛び出しています。最高傑作は山下洋輔のフリージャズ「靴が鳴る」。河合代介（ハモンド・オルガン）と吉田美奈子のゴスペル「早春賦」もスゴイ。小暮晋也のバンジョーと片寄明人のカズーが強烈なカントリー・ソング「花」、BUNのカリンバが効果的なガムラン音楽「うれしいひなまつり」も驚きです。
