昭和の歌謡界を代表する作曲家の一人、古関裕而のイメージは一言【プロフェッショナル】。有名な話だがタイガースの「六甲おろし」もジャイアンツの「闘魂こめて」も、早稲田の「紫紺の空」も慶応の「我ぞ覇者」も、みんなこの人が作曲しているのだ（このコレクションには収録されていないが「ドラゴンズの歌」の作曲も彼である）。国威発揚でも商品の購買意欲でも、ご要望あれば何でも対応します、といった感じ。

彼の数多い作品から厳選されたこの2枚組の1枚目は、様々な応援歌やテーマ曲を収録。現在でもNHKのスポーツ番組で必ずかかるあのテーマや、高校野球の「栄冠は君に輝く」、うちの近所のスーパーでは未だにこの曲で閉店を知らせているユージン・コスマン楽団名義の「別れのワルツ（蛍の光）」など【日本の日常生活のBGM】と化している作品が次々登場。一つ注文をつければ、再録が多すぎるのが難点だが、応援歌やテーマ曲にオリジナル録音も何もないか。

2枚目のCDには音丸の戦前録音「船頭可愛や」にはじまり、「愛国の花」「暁に祈る」といった戦時歌謡、「フランチェスカの鐘」「君の名は」など戦後歌謡までの代表作品20曲を収録。個人的には戦時歌謡の持つ悲壮感は苦手で、やはり「夢淡き東京」「高原列車は行く」といった朗らかな曲調の作品が聴いていて楽しい。ただ、板起こしらしき音質には不満があるが・・。

服部良一と比較して、この人の持つ「バタ臭さ」はちょっと異質なものがある。クラシック教育の賜物なのか、それとも他の要因か。非常に独特な“和製エキゾチック・サウンド”路線の「イヨマンテの夜」「黒百合の歌」などは、服部には表現し得ない世界ではないかと思う。

　つい最近まで、古関裕而という人のことを知りませんでした。高校野球やプロ野球のオープニングに聞く「あのテーマ曲」はこれだったんだ！「栄冠は君に輝く」ってこの人の作曲だったんだ！と感心しながら聞いています。

　昭和の大作曲家ということですが、戦後半世紀以上後に生まれた私は「東京オリンピック」も知らず、ましてや「勝ってくるぞといさましく・・・」の世界など知るはずもなく。でも、「こういう歌があった」ということを知る上で確かに貴重ですね。１日の終わりは「別れのワルツ」をわざわざかけて「あぁ、今日も１日お疲れさんでした・・」と終わる。阪神ファンでもないのに「六甲おろしに颯爽と・・・」と口ずさみますよ。

　何度もリピートして二枚を聴いています。
