シンガポール出身の歌姫 Olivia Ong の OLIVIA 名義のアルバムで、1 年前にリリースされ
たボサノヴァ・アレンジによるカバー集の第２弾です。

（この作品を聴く多くの方がそうだと思うのですが）第１弾を聴いて気に入ったリピーターなので
すが、力入り過ぎでもなくリラックスし過ぎてもいない絶妙のテンションのヴォーカルは聴いて
いて非常に心地良く、作品としての出来（というかアーティストの力量）は今作で更にレベルが
上がっているのを実感できます。特に Sixpence None The Richer のカバー「Kiss Me」は絶品。
前作は有名どころのスタンダード曲をいくつも収録しており、２作並べて「どっちを買おうかな」と
迷ったときに、つい第１弾の方を手に取りがちですが（もちろんそれはそれでOKですが）、純粋
にヴォーカルワークの素晴らしさを比較したら、本作に軍配を上げたいです。

前述のとおり彼女は Olivia Ong 名義でも活動しており（こちらはうって変わってバリバリの
ダンス・ミュージックなのですが）、そちらでの 1st.アルバム『precious stones』から 3 曲、
ボサノヴァにアレンジし直してセルフカバーするという心憎い演出が施されています。
特に <6>「Make It Mutual」はオリジナルの 1 曲目を飾るナンバーで、あのノリノリのドラ
ムンベースが「こうも変わるか！」と、ちょっと感動を覚えました。
（何故これが心憎い演出かというと、Olivia Ong としてのプロフィールや公式サイトでは、この
OLIVIA 名義での活動については一切触れていないのです。で、この収録曲で「実は同一人物
だったんだ」というのがわかる仕組みになっているのです。（たぶん））

まだ日本での知名度はそれほど高くはないですが、この素晴らしい才能が早く認められるよう
願ってやまないです。

こちらのサイトで第２弾を知り、早速買って聴きました。
一作目に較べよりキャッチーな、アップテンポな雰囲気です。
個人的に一作目は一人で聴きたい感じ、二作目は誰かと楽しく聴きたい感じ。

あまり洋楽に詳しくない私でも聴いた事のあるナンバーのカヴァーから、
セルフカヴァーのものまで、素敵な１２曲です。

ボサノバが好きでアナログLPの頃からずいぶんニッチなアルバムなども集めていました。OLIVIAのこのアルバムは、厳密にはボサノバというにはボサノバファン以外の人にもボサノバであるか否かにこだわらずに楽しめる、上質なアルバムだと思います。
「スタンダード」というジャンル（？）があるとすれば、これはOLIVIAによる一種のスタンダードアルバムだと思います。それぞれの曲には「この曲ならこの歌手の歌ったものがオリジナル、或いは有名だよね」といわれるものがあると思いますが、OLIVIAはそんなことを感じさせない、彼女のスタンスで聴く人の心に語りかけてくるところが真骨頂ではないかと。
そのことが一番わかりやすいのが松田聖子さんで有名なSweetMemories」でしょう。
TVCMで歌手名が出ることなく最初にペンギンのキャラクターで流れたあのときのインパクトは相当なもので、この曲をカバーすることは一種の「賭け」なのではないかと思って聴いたのですが、歌詞とメロディーの解釈は正確に伝わってくるし、何より、時々「間」を挟むことで曲のよさと同時にOLIVIAの歌手としての資質（歌唱力、声質）の良さを実感することになります。他の曲にしても英語で歌っていることで歌詞の意味が解りやすくなっていたり、また、全体的にアルバムの構成やバックの演奏のレベルが高いこと、演奏が出過ぎないことなど、アルバムとしての完成度も高いと感じます。
これは上質なスタンダードアルバムだというのが私の評価です。真剣に聴くも良し、カフェスタイルで流しながら聴くも良し。お勧めです。
