1989年にFAMILY COMPUTERで1作目、1994年にSUPER FAMICOMで2作目が発売され、ユーザーの心に強い印象と大きな感動を残した個性派RPGの傑作がついにGAMEBOY ADVANCEに2作品まとめて移植されることとなった。
本作「MOTHER 1+2」は、コピーライターとして有名な糸井重里氏が、ゲームデザインやシナリオなどゲーム作り全般に携わって世に産み落とした異色のRPGだ。現代を舞台に少年少女がメロディーを集めながらドキドキワクワクの冒険を繰り広げていく、ちょっと不思議なストーリーが魅力。現代ものということで、バットやフライパン、銃、ヘルメットなどを装備し、魔法代わりのPSI（超能力のようなもの）を駆使して宇宙人や車、ヘンテコな生き物をやっつけていく。戦闘システムはコマンド選択式のオーソドックスなものだが、「2」では回転ドラム方式を導入して緊張感あふれる戦闘を味わうことができるようになっている。

街並みやキャラクターなどのグラフィックは、あくまでポップでキュート。しかし、いったん遊び始めてみれば、住人の独特なセリフ回しが印象的な「毒づき」や「ナンセンス」な会話、あるいはその「ピュアな優しさ」にぐいぐい引き込まれていくのは間違いないだろう。ユーザの数だけ、それぞれの心の中にそれぞれのMOTHERワールドがハッキリと形づくられていく。発売後何年たとうとも、プレイしても古臭いと感じるどころか、逆に新鮮さと驚きをプレイするたびにもたらしてくれるに違いない。（皆瀬育郎）

これは、心に残る、素敵なＲＰＧです(^^)
普通のファンタジーのＲＰＧとは違い、
現実っぽい世界で超能力みたいなものを使って
敵と戦うし、武器も身の回りに
あるものばかり。

親近感がわきますよ。

で、いつの間にか主人公たちと一体化
している自分がいるんですね。

ゲームの音楽もすばらしいです。

自分は、安売り前ので、プレイをしましたがそれでも後悔はありません。
マザーがプレイできるという喜びが感じられたからです。
そういうゲームって、やはり進めたいものなので、もっている友達に借りてでもプレイしていただきたいです。
マップ上で、早足で歩けたり、時間がある程度たったら、休憩のセーブを
進める会話がでてきたりと細かい工夫もあります。

コピーライターの糸井重里氏が制作に関わりファミコンで発売されたMOTHER、スーパーファミコンで発売されたMOTHER2ギーグの逆襲の2作をGBA用にセットにしてまとめたものです。
基本的にはそのまま移植されてるのですが、音に関しては明らかに劣化しております。この点は未経験者なら関係ないでしょうけど、経験者は注意。

またゲームバランス等もオリジナル版発売当時のままなので今時のゲームと比べるとけっこう不親切＆バランスきつめかも。
特にMOTHER1の方はFC時代と言うこともあり、けっこうシビアです。当時プレイした人なら懐かしさもあって楽しめるかもしれませんが、新規ユーザーには厳しいかもしれません。

しかし、現代っぽい設定（敵なども）や世界観がかなり独特（いい意味で）だったりしますので、少し変わったRPGをしたいという人にはお勧めかな。シナリオもけっこう良かったりします。4月に発売される3の予習も兼ねてどうでしょうか。
