   16世紀初頭、朝鮮王朝の時代。幼い頃に両親を亡くしたチャングムは、母の遺志を継いで宮廷の料理人となる。やがて陰謀に巻き込まれ追放の憂き目にあうが、彼女はそこから医学の道を究め……。史実にも名を残す実在の女性をモデルにした、韓国版大河ドラマといった趣の時代劇作品だ。主演は映画『JSA』でもその美しさが印象的だったイ・ヨンエ。
   謀略渦巻く宮廷の中で、それでも真心を重んじ、自らの力で人生を切り開いていくチャングムの姿が快い。誠実な語り口にほどよいケレン味が加わった物語運びも実に絶妙。次から次へとチャングムにふりかかる苦難と、その顛末から目が離せなくなる。

正直いって無知ゆえに今まで中国とは対称的に韓国の伝統文化を軽んじていたというか関心がなかったのだが、すばらしい文化を垣間見ることができ、素直に敬服させられる気持ちになった。
それが本ドラマで韓国では０４年３月まで放映され最高視聴率５７％をたたき出し、香港で４３％、現在中国本土でも放映されはじめ話題となったアジアを一体感にさせるドラマである。
500年続く朝鮮王朝中期にあたる時代、宮廷を舞台に王朝で初めて王様の主治医に上りつめる現存した女性が、数々の苦難と陰謀に巻き込まれながらも良心に逆らわず強い信念で生き抜く様を史実とフィクションを織り交ぜて描いている。
衝撃だった映画「シュリ」、あまりに純心（粋）ゆえに新鮮だった「冬ソナ」、日本との差を感じさせない都会的な「悲しき恋歌」以上にインパクトがあり、韓国に抱いていた偏見を根底から覆し払拭するだけの威力がある。
韓国の歴史・文化を知ることができ、美しい民族衣装に魅せられ、宮廷料理という伝統文化、漢方医学を通じた健康、テンポの早いストーリー展開で視聴者を飽きさせない。
大げさかもしれないが、ドラマや音楽が国境を越え人の気持ちを近づけ、政治力を必要としない平和な力となりうる程、影響力は絶大であることを、身をもって感じた気がする。

韓流ドラマは今や日本のドラマを越えてしまった感があるが、私自身は男性ということもあって、なんだか甘すぎるチョコレートを食べたよううな感じを受けていた。もっと韓国（朝鮮）の歴史や普通の人々を描いたドラマが見たい、そんな私の思いを十分に満たしてくれる作品がこの[チャングムの誓い」である。なんといっても幼い頃のチャングムがいい。つらい試練に立ち向かうシーンを見ていると思わず手を差しのべたくなってしまう。数百年も昔の宮廷の話ではあるが、自分がそこにいるかのように感情移入してしまうのだ。成長したチャングムを演じるイ・ヨンエも美しく知的である。ぜひ見てください！

医女修練を終えて悲願の宮中へ戻ったチャングム。そこではチェ一族が映画をきわめていました。チェ一族は殺した女官仲間の娘、奴婢に落としても医女として戻ってくるチャングムへ恐怖心を抱きながらもあの手この手で策謀をめぐらします。優秀さゆえに新たなる敵もでき、何度も命の危険にさらされますが、何かある度に守護神のように寄り添い、愛を感じながらも大望を抱くチャングムをひたすら温かく見守るチョンホがとても素敵です。またチェ一族の娘として生まれたために大切なものを捨てなければならなかったクミョンの涙あり、理不尽な出来事に怒り、成功に溜飲の下がる思いをいだき、一緒に泣いたり笑ったり感情移入してしまいます。なおチャングムの養母役の女優さんは最近結婚、クミョンは２月に在米韓国人と結婚が決まっているそうです。
