監督は「デッド・ゾーン」「チャイルドプレイ２」のジョン・ラフィア。
ＴＶパニック・ムービーと知りつつ購入。あまり期待してなかったので
すが鑑賞後の意見として「そこら辺の映画より楽しめるよ。これ・・。」
ＴＶムービーとバカにできないレベルの高さです。監督、いいセンスして
ます。アメリカ各地で連発する巨大地震。被害を最小限に食い止めようと
疾走する連邦緊急事態管理局。ヒル博士を筆頭に事態に苦悩する大統領、
連邦緊急事態管理局の長官、長官の息子、サンフランシスコ知事、その家族
などの人間ドラマが丁寧に描かれていて、すんなり映画に入っていけます。
地震の描写はもちろんのこと、まるで進入者を待ち構えているようなトラッ
プ的２次災害などを盛り込み、物語は緊張感を保ちながら進んでいきます。
ラストのスペクタクル巨大地震はその緊張感の糸が切れたかのように大爆発！
パニック映画好きならかならず観ておかなければならない必見作です。

本編１６５分と長めですが、２部構成（ＴＶムービーですから）みたいな
感じで収録されてます。

2001年の９・１１の後に作られたテレビ映画ですね。スタートは、予想を裏切り、青春映画のような音楽で明るいシアトルのシーンから始まりますが、あっという間にパニック映画の構図が前面に出てきます。アメリカを象徴するシアトルのスペース・ニードル、ゴールデン・ゲート・ブリッジの崩壊のシーンと最後の十戒を思わせるスペクタクル・シーンが売りです。家族を絡めたシーンや大統領の演説などのお決まりのパターンを踏襲していますが、思ったより楽しめました。最後に南キャリフォルニアの地形が変わってしまうのは、何か特別な象徴的な意味があるのでしょうか？

灯台下暗し。映画を見たあとこの言葉が私の脳裏に浮かんだ。宇宙へ自由に行ける時代になりつつある昨今、地球を本当に理解しているのだろうか。地球を本当に理解していれば地震予知を行うことは可能だろう。でも答えは否。人間は地球の主人ではないのだ。人間は目に見えるものには信頼を寄せるが、見えなければなかなか信じようとしない。人間の弱さをまざまざと見せ付けられたような気がする。ヒル博士は目に見えない真実に目を向けた。それが地球と共生することにつながる第一歩につながるのだろう。非常に深みのある映画でした。
