手塚治虫の同名の漫画をアニメ化した作品です。原作の漫画は、アクションではなく、主人公の少年が、日常の生活で経験する数々の試練を克服しながら成長していく姿に重点を置いています。それに対してアニメ版の本作品は、正義の組織の一員としてスパイ活動をする兄を、Ｗ３と一緒に助けて大活躍する主人公のアクションを描いています。原作の基本設定をベースに、アニメならではのアクションシーンで魅せる痛快な作品ですよ。
