ザ・フォーク・クルセダーズのことは全然知りませんでしたが、映画の「パッチギ」を見て『イムジン河』と『悲しくてやりきれない』がすごく印象に残り思わずＣＤを買ってみました。『イムジン河』『悲しくて〜』はもちろん、それ以外の曲も「後世に受け継がれていくのはこういう歌たちなんだろうな〜」と感じました。音楽の力ってすんげぇ〜！！

内容としては唯一のスタジオ録音盤『紀元二千年』全曲に、シングル曲など+αしたもの。イムジン河以外の名曲は押さえているし、当時ドラマの主題歌にもなったという「百まで生きよう」のスタジオヴァージョンなどの貴重音源も入っている。しかも安い。安くてうまい、牛丼みたいなCDだ。

当時は「関西フォーク」が全盛でした。特に学生の街、京都が生んだ京都府立医大生の北山修、龍谷大学生の加藤和彦、同志社大学生のはしだのりひこという1970年代の音楽シーンを語るには、はずせないビックな３人が生み出したザ・フォーク・クルセダーズは、「フォーク」の原点とも言えるグループでした。

「帰って来たヨッパライ」という日本中の人がビックリした曲でプロデビューした彼らは、カレッジ・フォークというジャンルではなく、ナンセンス・ソングの歌い手として最初は認識されていました。｢オラ~は死んじまっただ~｣という人をくったようなふざけた歌詞とメロディでしたが、その特異性は過去に例がなく、見事に大ヒットしました。

「水虫の唄（ザ・ズートルビー）」もこの路線で作られたわけですが、そのパロディ精神は見事で、これもヒットしましたね。「ゲ・ゲ・ゲの鬼太郎（ライブ）」や「ひょっこりひょうたん島」なども味がありますね。オリジナルとは一味も二味も違うのが彼ら流で面白いと思いました。

「戦争は知らない」も懐かしかったですね。当時の若者、即ち現在50代の方なら皆口ずさめるような名曲だと思います。若い世代の方に是非聴いて欲しい曲だと思いますが・・・。

その後、「青年は荒野をめざす」や「悲しくてやりきれない」等の名曲を作りましたが、突然解散しました。
どれもメッセージ性に富んでおり、その美しいメロディラインは、当時の歌謡曲とは明らかにレベルが違っていましたね。エバー・グリーンの輝きを持った名曲です。

ザ・フォーク・クルセダーズの歌の数々に40年近く経ってまた巡り会えるのも幸せなことだと思っています。どの曲も聴いた瞬間あの時代にタイム・スリップします。我々の世代の「ナツメロ」になるのでしょうね。
