このアルバムは丁寧な作りになっていて、曲順は発表された順にならんでいて西田佐知子の声の成長とまではいかないが歴史みたいなものを感じられる。

歌詞には彼女のプロフィールなどの解説も嬉しく、ジャケットには当時のレコードジャケットがずらりと並んでいてこれも可愛らしい。それに代表曲のほとんどが収録されているベストなのでこれ1枚で充分に彼女の世界を
楽しむことが出来る。西田佐知子さんには沢山の
代表曲・ヒット曲があるがやはり一般的に“西田佐知子”といったら

大！名曲の「アカシアの雨がやむとき」だろう。
濡れた曲に渇いたヴォーカル…ひとつ間違えれば
曲の雰囲気が崩れてしまいそうだが、彼女の声はこの素晴らしい曲と
見事に融合しあい聴く側に感動を与える。これも彼女の持つ歌唱力の
凄さだろう。他に「信じていればこそ」や「あの人に逢ったら」など

良い曲が沢山ならんでいるのでお気に入りの曲が何曲も見つかるはず。
是非、西田佐知子のかもし出す唄の世界に酔ってみて下さい。

西田佐知子といえば「アカシアの雨がやむとき」が大ヒットしました。彼女特有のけだるい雰囲気のハスキーヴォイスは、他の歌手にはない魅力がありました。トランペットのイントロを聴くだけで歌い出しが出てくるような1960年当時の世相を反映したようなヒット曲でした。

彼女はよく言われるように「美人歌手」というイメージでしたし、スタイルの良い細い姿は、後に登場してくる歌手のモデルの一つのようでした。「アカシアの雨がやむとき」の前後にヒットした「コーヒー・ルンバ」も有名ですね。

個人的には、橋本淳作詞、筒美京平作曲・編曲の「くれないホテル」が気に入りましたね。西田佐知子さんの名曲と言われていますが、レコード発売当時はあまり売れなかったそうです。コード進行もセブンスを使用し、少しジャジーなハーモニーがオシャレです。1969年当時の音楽シーンを考えますととても垢抜けていますし、西田佐知子のハスキーヴォイスに良く合う曲です。

「エリカの花散るとき」、「東京ブルース」、「女の意地」、「信じていたい」、「涙のかわくまで」、「赤坂の夜は更けて」等とヒット曲も多く、1971年に結婚引退したまま芸能界には復帰しませんでしたが、却ってその方が「伝説」となって良かったと思います。
「涙のかわくまで」なんて聴いていたら、いしだあゆみの先駆という感じですね。雰囲気がピッタリです。

都会派演歌？の女王。
スリムで美人の西田さんは私達の憧れでした。
60年代の歌謡曲の原点、あるときは囁くように、そして豊かな高音域が
見事です。
22曲全てフルコーラス収録も嬉しく、至福のひと時を堪能しました。
余談ですが、ジャケットの裏側の写真が素晴らしい。
