ライフワークであるライヴ「Ken'S Bar」の5周年記念アルバム。矢野顕子、塩谷哲らをゲストに迎え、アコースティックで収録したカヴァーソング集。自身の音楽のルーツとなった曲を自ら選曲し、ベット・ミドラーの「THE ROSE」、ノラ・ジョーンズの「Don’t Know Why」など11曲を収録。「You’ve Got A Friend」では、敬愛するダニー・ハサウェイの愛娘、レイラ・ハサウェイとのデュエットも実現。

【関連商品】
日本人としては初めて番組の発祥の地、ニューヨークで収録を行い「MTVアンプラグド」に出演た平井堅。そのライブの模様とドキュメント映像を収録したDVD『MTV UNPLUGGED KEN HIRAI』も12月10日が同時発売。オンエアされていない未公開映像も全9曲45分収録。

「カラオケにしか過ぎない」という意見があり、購入を少しためらいましたが「カラオケ万歳」ですプロの歌手でも他の人の曲をこんなに歌いこなせる人はそうそういないと思いますとにかく歌がうまいので安心してとても心地よく聴けますただ「大きな古時計」と「見上げてごらん・・・」が楽曲的に浮いている気がするのが残念なので星４つです

このアルバムは「平井堅」という人を知る上でもっとも重要な作品の1つだと思います。1つ1ついつも丁寧に曲の意味を感じ、歌っている彼はとても素晴らしく、こんな彼に影響を与えた「歌」・「人」も感じられるこの作品は平井堅さんのファンで無くともただ純粋に「いい歌を聴きたい」・・そんな人にも必ず受け入れられる作品になっていると確信しています。絶対手元において欲しい1枚です。

紅白で「見上げてごらん夜の星を」を歌っているのを見て、すごく良かったのでこのCDを買いました。「大きな古時計」もいいし、ノラ・ジョーンズの「Don't Know Why」が実に聞かせる出来だと思います。彼のライフワーク「Ken's Bar」は是非今後とも続けて欲しい！
