   2003年3月に出たシングル「RIVER」が、「機動戦士ガンダムSEED」のエンディング・テーマ曲となり、この曲の4ヴァージョンを収録した“GUNDAM SEED EDITION”としてリリースされたもの。オリジナルはメロディアスなミディアム・バラード。メロディーが緩やかに高揚し、サビで広がりのある展開になっていくという歌謡曲的な曲で、石井竜也のゴージャスなヴォーカルがいっそう冴えているし、メランコリックなギターを中心としたていねいなサウンドも効果的だ。最近の彼はnipops（ニポップス）と題して“ニッポン人のポップス”を追求しているが、その傾向を強めた佳曲といえるだろう。ほかに渡辺善太郎のリミックス、光田健一のピアノ・インストゥルメンタルも収録。（小山 守）

石井竜也の楽曲の魅力はメロディラインの美しさと、艶のある声、この２つだと思うんですが、声に関していえばこの声、まだ聴いていない人に｢お願いだから聞いてみて！｣とでも言いたくなる位の艶感があります。本人も３０代の頃よりもずっと今の声が気に入っているご様子、ヘッドフォンで聞いてみてください、トロけちゃいますよ(^_^)

また、歌詞もメロディもキュン、とするような仕上がり。新たにSEED エディションとしてリリースしなおしたところで、オリジナルとはちょっと違ったバージョンが楽しめるのも得した気分、かな？

オリジナルはもちろんですが、この
ガンダムバージョンもすごいかっこいいです！
素敵な声に聞きほれてしまいます~

　初めて聞いたとき、衝撃・・・！
　
　この深さがガンダムＳＥＥＤに使われるとは、本当にショッキングだ。
　ＳＥＥＤの物語にもしっかりとリンクしているものの、
　ＳＥＥＤをも超える普遍的なメッセージ性を秘めた美しくも哀しく、
それでいて、力強い響きさえも感じられる。

　この歌がＥＤとして使われていたときは、むしろこちらが
「主役」で、ＳＥＥＤのストーリーはあくまでも
この歌にインスパイアされて創られたといっても言い過ぎではないくらいだ。
