まだ高校生の頃にこの番組を見た記憶がある。その頃はまだ生命の誕生までのプロセスに対して恥ずかしさも感じていたが、人間一人が生きているということが、どれほど神秘的で奇跡に近いことかを初めて実感し、強烈に印象に残っていた。それから１５年がたち、自分が今度は親になる年齢になって見たこのDVDの持つ力、感激はまったく色あせていなかった。NHKならではの、素晴らしい作品だと思う。一人でも多くの子供・大人に見てもらいたい。

ＮＨＫの“人体シリーズ”第一期の中でもやはり白眉なのがこの第一巻ではないでしょうか。　無数の精子たちの繰り広げるデッドヒートの凄まじさ、そして受精の瞬間、卵子表面に走るカルシウムイオンの波動がちゃんと写ってます。　そして卵子の中に入り込めなかった敗者の精子たちが死んでいく姿−。これってやはり、実際に妊婦さんの体内にカメラを入れないと撮れない映像だと思うのですが、本当にそうやったのでしょうか?　受精から20日目、最初の心臓の鼓動が始まりますが、そのとき、まだ心臓はその形すら出来ていません。　白銀の膜のようなものの中にある、かすかな点が最初の鼓動を打ち始める瞬間を見るのはまったく感動的です。

また、胎児がへその緒を通して栄養と酸素を吸収するのは、胎盤のなかにある毛細血管に、母体が血液を噴射(ジェット流と言うそうです)して、毛細血管が栄養素を取り込む、というメカニズムになっているのですが、本当に胎盤の壁に孔が開いていてそこから血液がジェット噴射されている模様が鮮明に写っています。　こんなものは生まれて初めて見ました。　とにかくこの第一巻の映像は圧倒的で見る価値大です。

NHKスペシャル人体はシリーズ化されたが、その第一シリーズ目にあたる作品。人間の体の構造について探っていく番組。第一回目は生命誕生ということで最も興味深く観ることが出来た。実写とCGを効果的に使い解説分かりやすい。頭で理解するよりも実際に映像を観た方が実感がわくものだ。特に受精の瞬間を捉えた映像は説得力がある。カルシウムイオンの波が卵子を走り抜ける様子は感動的ですらある。今、教育現場での児童性教育が問題になっているが変な授業をするより、このDVDを黙って観る方が良いのではないだろうか？BGMはジブリや北野作品でも有名な久石氏。本当に素晴らしいの一言につきる。
