若き日の仲代達矢扮する平清盛の乾坤一擲の気迫と、斜陽化してからの、やることなすことすべてが裏目に出るという閉塞状態が、子供心にも、強烈に焼き付いている作品だが、残念ながら、ここにあるのは総集編であり、当時は、総集編の作り方も未熟であったのか雑であったのか、所々、わかりにくい部分があり、特に、人間模様などの、説明が必要とされる部分でそれが顕著であるようである。

ところで、この作品を見ていて、ふと、思ったのだが、「平家は頼朝を助けたばかりに頼朝によって滅ぼされてしまった」という、巷間言われる「情けが仇」の見本のような話があるが、清盛が源氏の幼子を助けたというのは、決して間違った判断ではなかったのではないか？
なぜなら、保元・平治の乱という熾烈な権力闘争の後、人々は新しく権力者として登場してきた「武士」という武力を持った新興階級に対し、著しい不安感を持っていたと思われ、遺児らを助けることは、まずは、それら不安感の払拭に効果があったと思うからである。
（現に、清盛死後、平家を都から追ったのは、頼朝でも義経でもなく木曽義仲なのである。）

もっとも、ここまではいいとして、私が疑問に思うのは、なぜ源氏の嫡男を伊豆へなどなど流したのか？ということである。
関東は元々、源氏の地盤であり、今は平家に靡いているとはいえ、湿った火薬庫に火の気を投げ込むようなものではなかったか？
私なら、頼朝は京に留め置き、貴族制に代わる武家政権の樹立という源平共通の利害目的を掲げ、その上で、一門の娘をあてがい、平家一門（武家側と言い換えてもいいかと）に取り込む。
それができないのなら、せめて、源氏の基盤である東国ではなく、平家の基盤である西国へ流すべきだったのではないか。
清盛も、まさか「伊豆」と「伊予」を間違ったわけでもないだろうが、何とも腑に落ちぬ選択である。

平家物語に興味のある私なので購入しましたが、放映当時は子供だったのでもちろん見た事がなかったのですが、改めて見てみると、役者陣のあまりのすばらしさに感動の連続です。今も現役で活躍されている俳優さんたちばかりなので、あれ？っという端役に意外な人が出演していて感動してしまうのが大河ドラマの醍醐味なのですが、仲代達矢さんはやはりとても演技力のある画面に映える俳優さんなんだなあと痛感しました。中村玉緒さんの、あまりのかわいさに感激でした。デビュー当時の郷ひろみさんなども、声変わりしていなくて可愛いので驚きました。ぜひともお薦めです！
