物語は、派手なアクションもなく淡々と進んでいきます。

忘れられない印象的な音楽、暗さの中に明るさが見いだせる映像、そしてケビン・スペイシーの静かで迫力のある演技にすっかり魅了されました。とにかく、ニューファンドランド島の景色が美しい。監督は原作の味わいを大切にした、とのことでしたが、
映像から詩的な雰囲気が感じ取られ、秀作だと思います。

　さえない男の「再生」というよりは、まったく別の人間への「生まれ変わり」に近い話しだと思いました。
　静かに映画を味わいたいときにお勧めの作品だと思います。また時間をあけて、もう一度みたいと思います。
レンタルDVDで見ましたが、購入を検討しています。

最近気になる女優ジュリアン・ムーアとダメ男を演じさせたらドンピシャのケビン・スペイシーによる心に残る良い話です。何度観ても飽きません。
スコット・グレンが最近脇役をやると非常に良い作品になりますね。
ですが脇役で出演が多すぎるようで、そろそろ主演で彼の演技が見てみたい。

信じがたいストーリー設定、北の島っつー舞台背景、厳しくも心地よい自然がダメ男をいっぱしにして行く過程がまだまだ続くような余韻のエンディング。
心にシミジミと来ます。最近暴れまくりのジュリアンが抑え気味な人物を大変好演してます。

この監督はどうしてこんなに人間を描くのが上手いのだろう。
『ギルバート・グレイプ』『サイダーハウス・ルール』
『ショコラ』と、淡々としたドラマの中に人間の奥深さを
丁寧に映し出して見せてくれる。
彼の作り出すドラマには必ず、誰の胸にも響くテーマが
内包されている。それは主人公だけではなく、周りの人々にも
神経が行き渡っているからのだ。

今回の映画では、名優となったケビン・スペイシーの抑えた演技と
ジュディ・デンチのたくましい演技が際立ち、漁村の心象風景と
住人たちが懐かしさと暖かさをいつしか感じさせてくれる。
本当に何気ない物語なのであるが、ラストシーンでは感動で
胸がいっぱいになっている。誰の心にも響く名編である。
