狐と呼ばれるサギ師アルドー・バヌッチに、カイロから盗んできた金をイタリアへ運ぶ仕事が舞い込む。金を盗んだ本人オクラと交渉成立に成功したアルドーは、妹？ーナがエキストラとして働いていることを利用して、??の密輸を映画のロケとして堂々と犯行を決行することを決意する。中年の人気俳優、トニー・ポーウェルに主役を依頼したアルドーは、ロケを始めるが、思わぬハプニングが発生する。・・・

『ピンク・パンサー』でおなじみのピーター・セラーズが、この作品では女好きでお調子者、いいかげんで口が達者な泥棒を演じています。オープニングのアニメーションが楽しくてテーマ曲とぴったりなので、「何だか楽しそう！」と期待してしまったのですが、物語が進むにつれてだんだん面白くなくなってきたように感じました。アイディアはいいのですが、何だかアルドーが口先だけ調子いいことを言っているだけに思えて「本当に泥棒できるのか！？」なんて、心配してしまいました。コメディに仕立て上げるつもりがわざとドタバタさせていると思うのですが、個人的にあまり笑えませんでした。でも、監督になりすましたアルドーが、エキストラの村人達に「２、３人街を横切って！」と指示を出すと、全員が我も我もと参加して街を横切る、なんて何気ない場面が笑えたりしました。
