1988年に劇場公開もされた総集編。全40話を90分にうまくまとめられています。主人公たち４人の愛の物語に焦点があてられたような感じで、見せ場がたくさんつまっているので見終わったあとも満足できます。
台詞も新声優陣によって新たに吹きかえられており、テレビシリーズのイメージは壊さず熱演している様子が伺えます。急に見たくなったときに、最適だと思います。

なぜ、ＴＶ版とキャストが違うのだろうか？
マンガはずいぶん昔に一通り読んだ程度だし、アニメも全部みたわけ
ではないが、田島令子のオスカルでないと見る気が起こらない。
　それと、ＴＶの放送からだいぶ経ってからの上映だが
（２０年ぶりに映画化されたＺガンダムほどではないが）、
フランス革命２００周年にかこつけての上映だったのだろうか?
