ＲＣＡ／ＡＩＲ時代に残した旧譜７タイトル（"CIRCUS TOWN","SPACY","IT'S A POPPIN' TIME","GO AHEAD","MOONGLOW","RIDE ON TIME","FOR YOU"）の同時再発のひとつである。新しいファンはもちろん、同タイトルのＣＤやＬＰをすでに持っている達郎フリークもこれを買うべきである理由は、「デジタル・リマスタリングで音が良くなったこと」、「ボーナストラックが付いていること」以外にも次のような重要な理由がある。

それはライナーに「現在の」山下達郎自身による書き下ろし「解説と曲目解説」が収録されている点である。
これは一種、回顧録のような形で語られ、アルバム制作当時の裏事情、山下達郎氏の心境などが証される。当時の音楽界の「時代の雰囲気」を伝える、非常に興味深い読み物になっている。

本作「ライド・オン・タイム」では、ようやく固定のリズム・セクションを得て、また初のヒット曲が生まれた事による環境の変化、心境の変化、芸能メディアの醜悪さについて述べています。

最も感動的なのは、ボーナス・トラック「RIDE ON TIME single version」の解説。自分の作品なのに契約の関係で自由に素材を扱えないジレンマ。そればかりか他人に勝手に素材を扱われる、その悔しさをさらっと匂わせています。読む人が読めば解る！（涙）

1980年代の作品はとても気に入っている。山下達郎という人物を知らない人はこれを是非聞いてみるべきだ。現代のアーティストにはここまでできる者はまずいないだろう。

　このアルバムを買ったのは高校１年の頃でした。きっかけは当時見ていたドラマに「MY SUGAR BABE」が使われていたからです。アップテンポのＡ面も素晴らしいのですが、スローバラード中心のＢ面、特にＳＦ（ファンタジーかな？）小説をモチーフにした「夏への扉」は読後に聴くと涙が出そうになります。ついこのあいだ車の中で久しぶりに聴きましたが、少しも古臭さを感じさせません。正直、最近の達郎はちょっと？かなと敬遠していた私ですが、今回の再発をきっかけに、元々が良い録音のこのアルバムを、さらに向上した音質で聴き直してみたいと思っています。ぜひ！
