   名村と大木が衝突し廃部の危機に陥ったラグビー部を、加代が命と引き替えに救う、第19話『友よ安らかに眠れ』。キャプテンの大木が母の病気を気にかけ試合に集中できずにいるが、名村の父が励まし全国への切符を手に入れるまでを描く第20話『我ら花園に立つ』。タックルを恐がった治男のため敗退し、治男が1人タックルの練習をする第21話『勇気なきものは去れ』。第7巻では、この3話が収録されている。（田中 元）

ドラマのクライマックスに向けて、テーマがよりはっきりとしてきます。

マネージャー加代の死。大助と正の和解。名村謙三の孤独。大助の積年の恨み。そして和解。花園出場。強者に立ち向かう勇気。と上げると切りがありません。少年時代に見たインパクトでは、やはり加代の死、内田治男が失った勇気を取り戻す努力となるのでしょうが、
今の時代で、より強く響いてくるテーマは「名村謙三の孤独」ではないかと思うのです。

名村グループの総帥として財を築きながらも、カネにならないと少年時代に捨てたラグビー、心から愛した「愛人」夏子との間に生まれた圭子を部下の富田に育てさせる苦悩。

「寂しさ」それを受け入れ乗り越えていかねばならない孤独。
それは名村謙三の強さではないかと感じたのです。

孤独が怖くても受け入れなければならないときがある。
恋愛ごっこ、友達ごっこ、でなあなあに人付き合いしないといけないストレスを感じるくらいならば、孤独に耐える強さを保ちたい。そんな感想を持っています。

『あのボールはいまでもどこかの海を漂っているのだろうか
　いずれにしろ、もはや私の手には戻ってこない。』

失ったものは２度と取り戻すことはできない。深く胸に刻み込まれるセリフです。

この「スクール・ウォーズ」7巻の肝は、
やはり第21話「勇気なきものは去れ」だろう。
滝沢が高校に赴任当初、ツッパリとして学校を
荒らしていた治男の兄と、その父・坂上二郎。
治男の兄は、滝沢によって更正し、その弟・治男が
滝沢の教え子となった。

そんな治男が、ある出来事がきっかけで、
タックルができなくなってしまう。治男が
ラグビー部をやめそうになったとき、坂上二郎が
「どうしてうちの治男が！」と滝沢に詰め寄るシーンは
真剣なシーンなのに、親バカぶりがコミカルだ。

ラスト近く、夜の公園で、「俺、ラグビーやりたい、
もう一度（滝沢）先生にラグビーやらせてもらうんだ」と言いながら
一人タックルの練習をする治男。「よし、俺も手伝ってやる！こい！」
と一緒に練習する兄。それを遠くから見つめる滝沢。
1話で、今まで地味だった登場人物に光を当て、
チームに対する滝沢の姿勢も見せたこの話は、「スクール・ウォーズ」
の中でもサイドストーリー的な位置にあるが、感動的だ。
