先日の某テレビ番組での再結集が反響を呼んだヤング101に少し先がけ、「喫茶ロック」イベントでの再結成を果たしていたシング・アウト（一時、井上陽水夫人の石川セリも在籍。その再結成時にも１曲参加した）。共にNHK『ステージ101』を彩ったレギュラー・メンバーで、合唱スタンダードとしても知られる「涙をこえて」はシング・アウトがオリジナル（セールス的には小ヒット）、後にヤング101のテーマ曲のような存在となった。
このCDは、そのシング・アウト唯一のアルバムに、『ステージ101』のテーマ曲「ヤッポン」、「コカ・コーラの歌」、ピコとアーチー・フレンズ名義のバブルガム・ポップなど、可能な限りのボーナス・トラックを追加したもの。

正直、アルバム単体の評価となると、７曲づつ収められたオリジナルにもカヴァー曲にも、出来にはばらつきがあり、文句なしにおすすめ、とはいかないのだが、シングルのみだったボーナス曲「ぼくは雲じゃない」の、説教くさくなく人生について語る深遠な歌詞と透明感あふれるサウンドの素晴らしさ、そして何より「涙をこえて」の颯爽とした名曲ぶりの前では言葉を失ってしまい、星も５つ、ということになってしまうのだった。

ＮＨＫがステージ１０１のために作ったグループなのか、もともとあったグループをステージ１０１のために起用したのか分かりませぬが、なんか、このグループ、ちょいと、いい加減じゃないわよね。しかも、このグループから名曲が生まれてる。そう、「涙をこえて」。かの、中村八大さんの曲です。そして、「愛のつばさを」。これも中村八大さん。そして、殆ど表に出た曲じゃないんだけど、「朝日の中でさようなら」、これ、泣ける曲。なんと、これも中村八大さん。他には、当時流行ってた洋ものの編曲歌が入ってて、これもいいけど、なんでしょうか、上手く言えないけど、こういうグループって、もう誰もプロデュースしないのでしょうか、日本では。
