今月、庄司紗矢香のデビュー盤を聴いて、年齢と関係ない本物というのはいるものだとしみじみ思っていたのだが、このシャルロット嬢も確実にそのひとりだと思う。“天使の歌声”みたいな形容から、はかなく消えていく“旬の声”をイメージしてしまっていたのは私の迂闊さというものだが、それにしてもこの声から聴こえてくる可能性の素晴らしさ。クラシックの声楽家は一般にスタートが遅く、そのために声と精神の成熟の時期がいささかずれてしまう苦しみを抱えているものだが、彼女に関してはその心配ももはやあるまい。むしろ声が早めに成熟し過ぎているのかも、と余計な心配をしたくなる。この年齢にして低域の伸びすら感じさせる声。ボーイ・ソプラノ的な綺麗さではない、“声の心”を表現できる楽器を持っていることは、歌手にとっては何よりの武器だ。まだ若い彼女が、この先どの方向に進んでいくかは分からないが、私はぜひ彼女のシューベルト・アルバムを聴いてみたいと思った。 (榊順一) --- 2000年11月号
