この人の曲は、まず人に聴かせた時に、受け付けないと言われた事が、何度かある。わからなくはない。歌い方に少し癖が、あるかな。年代的にも、尾崎、ブルーハーツ、レベッカ、などと、バンドブームと言われた時代のバンドで、ライバルが多すぎて、内容のわりには陽の目を浴びなかったけど、好きな人は、しっかり聴いてたバンドだ。どことなく、U2を感じさせたり、でも、根本には、浜田省吾や佐野元春がいて、やはり、作家になる方だから、詞が、メインの曲が、多く、言葉も、うまくメロディーに乗ってない曲もあるし、好き、嫌いは、はっきり別れるところだが、俺は好きだ。

今や大作家になってしまった辻仁成氏が昔やっていたバンドといったほうが通りの良くなってしまったエコーズ。初めて出てきた頃は、日本にもポリスやU2のような感触のバンドが出てきたなぁなんて思ったものですが、後期になるにつれてサウンドは派手に、メッセージは大袈裟になりがっかりしたものです。「ＺＯＯ」の思いがけないヒットが発端のこのベスト、なんで１０曲しか入ってないの？選曲も、この10曲でエコーズの魅力を引き出せてるとは思えない。エコーズの良さは、ひとつはPOPなメロ、わかりやすくポジティブなメッセージだけど、ただそれでけではない、ポツンと孤独の渕に取り残された少年の目線でのいらだちや焦燥感や無力感なんかがもう一方であって、一見ダサダサのポジティブなメッセージも、そんな裏打ちがあるからこそ信用できるんだと思う。そういう気持ちが表現された曲が「SHOTGUN　BLUES」くらいしか入ってないのは痛いなぁ。どうせなら全部ごりごりのポジティブナンバーばっかり並べた方が良かったかも。

小学生の時、ラジオのリクエストでこの曲を聴いた。その時たまたま録音していて感動するも、聴きたくても曲名がわからず、探偵ナイトスクープにでも探してもらおうかと思ったこともあった。
この歳になり、ふとネット内で曲のフレーズを検索してみたらZOOが歌っている事が判明しました。
その直後にアマゾンで検索し、購入に至りました。
BEST　OF　BEST　というだけあり、心に残る局でいっぱいです。

「友情」を聴くと、学生時代卒業間近になって、人との距離というものの難しさを思い出します。

とりあえず、友情だけでも機会があれば聴いてください。

　ＴＶの連ドラで知っている人は知っているかの有名な「ＺＯＯ」の入ったフルアルバム。辻さんに興味がある人には堪らないＣＤだろう。
