いろいろなシーンの断片が記憶に残る映画です。主人公トラビスの奥さんの昔の映像が一瞬映るのですが、映画を通して、彼女が笑うのはその古いフィルムの中だけなんです。その笑顔が凄く印象的。その他には、店で振り返る彼女の赤い服や、晴れた日に並べられた色とりどりの靴。ライ・クーダーの音楽。そういうひとつひとつのものやシーンに対する美意識が凄く好きです。なんだか丁寧で大事に撮られたかんじが良いです。
初めてみたのは１０代。とりあえず有名な映画を見ておこうという感覚で。その時は、こういうビジュアルばかりに目がいって、でもなんとなく頭の隅にずっと焼き付くといったかんじでした。そしてその断片を見たくて、何年か後に見たとき、不器用すぎる男とその愛に声をあげて泣きました!
