「なにこれ？アイドルのアルバム？」というくらい吃驚！
聖子ちゃんを知らず、ラジオでなっていても文句なしに素敵なできばえです。
曲も格好いいし、声もすがすがしく、もって生まれた可愛らしさも相まって完成度、高いと思います。ロック調もサンバも何でも「聖子色」になっているけれどイヤじゃないんですよね、これが・・。
ルックスで売れてやっとこすっとこ歌って出したアイドルのアルバム（失礼）とは一線を画す、別格の存在「聖子ちゃん」の原点を見ました。おすすめです。

全曲・三浦徳子／小田祐一郎による作詞・作曲で、ジャケットデザイン通り、｢夏｣をテーマにした統一感と十代の恋の予感と揺れ動く心をとじこめた出色のデビュー作品。既に彼女のトレードマークとなる母音を引き伸ばした唱法が表れているものの、わざとらしさはなく、初々しい声と共に生来持ち合わせていた個性だったのがわかります。女の子たちが反感を持ちながらも、例の｢聖子ちゃんカット｣を真似ていたのは、その声が当時の十代の恋する女の子の思いを見事に表現していたことにも一因があったような気がします。

新しい恋の始まりに胸騒ぎを抑えきれない静かなイントロから、大波が押し寄せるようなロックへ展開するタイトル曲が劇的かつ爽快。弾むようなベースとパーカッションが南国風のムードを醸し出しているスローナンバーの4もいい。9では多重録音による聖子ちゃん自身のセルフコーラスなどが聴けて意外に凝ったつくりも見逃せない。強力な頭サビが弾けるような歌声にマッチした8はこの年の夏を代表するヒット曲となったが、この曲全体としては"Mr.Lonely"あたりの５０~６０年代米国ポップスの旋律に似たところもあって、彼女の売り出し方の狙いが少し垣間見えるようです。溌剌とした中に幼さの残るかわいいデビュー曲も勿論収められているし、終始盛り立てる華麗で色鮮やかなギターのオブリガートも素敵で、とにかく尋常じゃないくらいいい曲が詰まっている。最後に届かない想いと恋を夢見て歌うバラードを持ってくるあたりも心憎い。｢こんな夜は抱きしめて｣のフレーズにぐっときた男の子たちも多かったはず。

聖子記念すべきデビューアルバム。透き通った歌声に当時心を奪われました。初々しさもありますが、その歌唱力には目を見張るものが。ＣＤ選書の廉価版になって、また１ｓｔから買い揃えたいところです。
