　家族という形が、大切さを見失われてから、ずいぶんになるのではないか。今日その意義が、もう一度問われているように思う。
　高度成長の時代、それまでの伝統的ともいえる価値観が、時代に取り残されようとしていた日本。時代の流れに竿をさすかのように、作られた作品。
作者は、普段の何気ない街の風景に、時代を掴み取ろうとこだわったのか、ドキュメンタリーを思わせるような場面も多い。それが一層家族のきずなを際立たせる。

　１９７０年春。長崎の硫黄島から、北海道の開拓村へ旅する５人家族。
幼子を連れての、都会を通過する旅は過酷であり、道中、まだ赤ん坊の長女を亡くしてまで北に向かう家族。
桜のほころび始めた長崎から、まだ雪の残る北国へ。しかし人々は暖かく、歓迎の宴で心のそこからの笑顔を見せる年老いた父親は、その日が人生最後の日になるのだった。
　そして、北国の春。新天地に根を下ろして行こうとする、家族の姿がそこにあった。

　家族のきずなという、さまざまな愛の形を、芸術に変えて見せてくれる映画。
日本映画史に残る、名作であると思う。

長崎から北海道まで、家族が大移動する話。
3000キロの旅を約100分に押し込んで、ギュウギュウ詰めといった感あり。

いい映画なんだろうけども、一家の大黒柱たる精一（井川比佐志）があまりに身勝手で頼りなく、どうにも共感できない。
苦しい旅の終点、中標津が明るく希望に満ちた場所として描かれているのはよかった。
しかし失ったものがあまりに大きく、新天地にたどり着いた家族を素直に祝福する気持ちにはなれなかった。

笠智衆はすばらしく良かった。
後ろ向きで佇む一瞬のシーン、背中のなんと美しいことか。
立ち姿がスラリとしていて、実に格好がよい。

そして渥美清の存在感がすごい。
青函連絡船で乗り合わせた人というチョイ役なのに、なぜか強く印象に残った。
ひとことセリフを発したその瞬間に、画面にグイっと惹きつけられる。
なんだかわからないがこの人はすごい。

あまり好きになれない映画だが、笠智衆と渥美清の名演を見ることができてよかった。
この時代の日本の雰囲気をよく伝えている風俗資料的な映画としても貴重だと思う。
