このCDを聞いてその認識をすぐに改めるべきだ。

初期ベストの「Singles & More」の時期は、ポップ・マニアたる彼らがやりたいことだけをやった
ある意味「分からない奴は分からなくてもいい」という路線だったが、
このVol.2収録の「HELLO,IT'S ME」「KNOCKIN' ON YOUR DOOR」がビッグヒットしたことを受け

大衆性とマニアックさを両立させようと悪戦苦闘してきた当時の彼らの足跡がそのまま記されている。

その象徴が、「売れる曲」と「やりたい曲」のギャップに悩まされた末に
産み出された問題作「アイネ・クライネ・ナハト・ミュージック」だろう。
音楽への愛情と、それゆえの混乱と、誰にでも分かるポップさと、

そしてレコードマニアがニヤリとするマニアックさと。その全てがここにはある。
