ブリテンはブライトンで結成されたフレイジャー・コーラスは、ディス・モータル・コイルに参加していたティム・フリーマンというキーボード奏者を中心としたグループで、彼らはエレクトロニクス楽器を中心とした音作りを行っていたものの、ケイト・ホームズというフルート奏者と、クリス・ダブリンというクラリネット奏者がメンバーに含まれているという、一風変わった編成を持っていた。彼らは４ＡＤからシングルでデビューした後にヴァージンへ移籍、1988年に“Sue”、1991年に本作“Ray”という２枚のアルバムを残し解散している（1995年にもインディー・レーベルから１作あり）。

プロデュースはイアン・ブロウディーが担当し、各パートを整然と整理した、ライトニング・シーズにおける彼らしい音作りがなされている。エレクトロニクス楽器を中心に音を構築しながらも、その中に適度にアコースティックな要素を織り込んでいくという手法を採っていて、音響処理にも気を配っていることもあり、コンピューターで構成された音楽にありがちな無味乾燥とした感じや、冷たく聴き手を突き放す感じではなく、もっとふんわりとした柔らかい感じを与えてくれる。ティム・フリーマンの耳元で囁くようなヴォーカルもその雰囲気の構築に一役買っている。曲としては１曲でこれぞというような強力なものはないのだが、音そのものから感じられる、作品全体の暖かく快適な雰囲気を通して楽しむには良い作品ではないだろうか。なおケイト・ホームズは、現在はクリエイション・レコーズの創設者にしてポップトーンズの代表である、アラン・マッギーの妻である。

彼らが何者かわからぬままジャケ買いをして早15年、
親切な他のレビュアーさんの解説で
やっと彼らがどういうグループだったのかわかりました。
（当時はインターネットがなかったので、　見知らぬ
　ミュージシャンはとことん見知らぬままであった。）

曲は青い海に泳ぐイルカのジャケット通り、
男声のウィスパー・ヴォイスがたっぷり浮遊感を
演出する爽やかなものだ。
一時は毎朝聴いていた。
