私は長いこと英会話に通っていましたし、短期ですが海外に留学したこともあります。
そうした中で英語が伸びる人と伸びない人を見てきました。
その大きな違いは単語力と文法です。
この２つをどこかの段階でやらないと、英会話に通っても語学留学しても
あまり成果はあがらないという人が多かったように思います。

「単語はたくさんの文章に触れる中でおぼえていくべきだ」という主張があり、
それは正しいと思いますが、必須単語を網羅するだけの文章に触れ、
かつおぼえていくのを至難の業です。それができる人ならいいのですが、
難しい人は単語集で短期的に集中して単語を覚えていく必要があります。
そんな中でＤＵＯは必須単語をカバーしており、ひとつの文で多くの単語が覚えられるので、
教材としてはもっとも合理的で最良だと思います。

ＤＵＯに限らず、単語を覚える教材については、繰り返しやることが大切です。
一度やっただけでは必ず忘れますので、2回3回とまわしていくことが重要です。
回を重ねるごとに覚える時間は減っていきますし、
単語が身についている実感がわいていきます。

30代後半の社会人（高卒）です。2004年2月から本書にて学習を開始しました。（当時TOEIC410、英検3級）似たような境遇というか実力の方に参考になれば幸いです。

45個のセクションを一通り終えるまで約１年半かかりました。未知の単語熟語が多くて...。途中で何度か挫折（中断）してます(^_^;
この間TOEICを６回受けました。現在ｽｺｱ640です。DUOの効果を実感しはじめたのは、開始後約１年、復習用CDに耳がついて行けるようになってからです。
現在の活用法は、復習用CD(約60分間)をMDに落とし、毎日20分ずつの音読（３日間で一回り）と復習用小冊子の例文を日本語から英語に書き直す練習です。これをやると、うろ覚えだった例文もスラスラと頭に浮かぶようになりました。（ただし根気が必要）

本書にはTOEIC対応600〜780レベルと記述されてますが、私みたいに560本の例文に集中した学習をしている者にとっては、600前後が限界みたいです。
日々の仕事の中で、なかなか時間が取れないかつ私と同様のレベルの方で、まず語彙を増やしたいという人にはお勧めです。ただ、TOEICに限って言えば、おそらく600前後で壁にぶつかるのではないでしょうか。私はこの春から基本的な文法を勉強することにし、DUO本冊はしばし、片隅におくことにしました。

私は今、51歳ですが、数年前にこの本の初版を買い、それ以来ずっとつきあっています。前の本は、10回以上読みました。テープは何十回となく聞きました。50歳近くになって急速に英語力が伸びたのは、この本のおかげと思っています。

最近は、日本在住のカナダ人の友人に毎週一回世界の主な出来事を英語で伝え、そのあと世界情勢からそれぞれの国の文化の違いまで討論をしていますがが、この本がなかったらそこまで伸びたかどうか。
語学は、50代になってもそれ以上になってもいくらでも伸びると自信を持っていえる一つの理由が、この参考書との出会いにあるのです。
