筒美京平を語ったものでこの本の右に出るものはなかろう。洋楽シーンにおける流行のサウンドをいち早く日本のポップスに取り入れ、ヒットさせてきた筒美マジックを徹底分析。彼が影響を受けた洋楽トレンドを、作品単位で詳述。また、アーティストごとに、彼の作品がどのような役割を果たしたかについても極めて的を射た見解が述べられる。

特に、「和風かつエレガントな雰囲気を醸し出す」サブドミナント・マイナー（IVm6）の６度にメロディーを持っていく手法を多用している、と喝破したあたりが面白い。（私が個人的に好きな岩崎宏美の作品だけを調べても、かなりの頻度でこの手法が用いられていた。）
ともあれ、筒美ファンであれば何をおいても手許に置いておきたい快著である。
