岩手県の私立花巻東高校での講演録です。
　「こんにちわ」「さようなら」とはどういう意味？そんな気にもしたことがないような身近なコトバの語源を追求する課程を通じ、私たち日本人がすっかり忘れてしまった「日本人とは何か」を探ります。
　「日本人とは？」という質問に、「え？どういう意味？」とまず思ってしまう事自体が、既に私たちが日本人としての誇りを忘れてしまっているのだと気づかされます。
　我々日本人の先祖が大切にしてきた「こころ」のとは、また、今私たちが存在する「原因」を知り、何にどの様に感謝していくのが私たちにとって自然なのかを教えてくれます。
　皆さんは、「今日は」、「さようなら」又、「お父さん」、「お母さん」の意味をご存じでしたか？日本人であることの誇りと自覚を再認識する語なのです。目から鱗間違いなしの一冊です。

　あなたは、日本人として誇りをもっていますか？欧米を見本としてきた過去。又、欧米を見本とし続けている現代社会を見直そう。日本人でよかった。日本人最高！と自分自身にも誇りがもてるでしょう。

　海外へ行って日本人ってなに？と問われたら何と答えますか？答えられますか？この本にはその答えがあります。そしてこの本を読めば自信を持って答えられます。
　以前あった、国歌や国旗についての論争はバカバカしく、くだらないものだったと思うでしょう。
　私は、日本人の持つ素晴らしい心のＤＮＡの謎が解けました。

　この本はとってもすばらしいです。
　この本と出合ったきっかけは、境野勝悟氏の講演を拝聴してとてもすばらしいものであったからです。この本の内容はその講演で語った事が集約されており、何度読み返しても良い物です。
　戦後、アメリカに占領され日本人の心を忘れてしまった私たち日本人にとって、再びその心を思い出させる大変良い書物であります。
　日本人の心を思い出し、これからの将来を担う子供たちに本当に大切な事を教え、凶悪犯罪が起きない日本にしていきましょう。
