UML技術者認定制度のブロンズ合格を目指す人にはちょうど良い本であり、初めてUMLに触れる人には取っ付きが良いと思う。この本は、UML技術者認定制度のブロンズ合格レベルの知識の習得が目的となっていて、その対策のための練習問題も含まれている。但し、本書の内容の中心部分であるチュートリアルは同内容のPDFファイルをインターネットで無料ダウンロード可能である為、試験対策問題集としての利用価値がメインとなってしまう感が否めない。

小説（？）でUMLを語る第1部、物語形式でUMLを紹介する第2部、非常に簡単なリファレンスと3人の登場人物のやりとりを見ながら実際のUMLの作成法を学ぶ第3部、UML技術者認定試験ブロンズレベルの対策と模擬試験の第4部で、本書は構成されている。
どれも、「UMLを易しく理解させよう」という著者の意欲の表れだと思うが、残念なことに各部の内容が薄いうえに、各部の内容が他の部の内容とかみ合っておらず、非常に中途半端な印象を受ける。

UML技術認定試験の主催元が執筆しているので、試験対策として検討される方が多いと思うが、対策問題や模試の解説に十分なページが割かれていなだけでなく、正解を導くための情報が本書のどこに書いてあるのか、探すのにとても苦労する（第4部にあるリファレンスを見ただけでは、ほとんどの問題は解けません）。

そのため、問題を解きながら理解する、と言うよりは問題とその答えを覚える、という試験対策になりがちだ。実際の試験ではそれで十分合格できるのだが、著者らの熱意を感じるだけに、非常に残念。

余談になるが、本書で対象としているUML技術認定試験はWebを使って無料で何度も受けられる上、間違えた問題は正解と問題の解説までしてくれるので、受験＝試験対策にもなる。
